Q to Avatar B112/B212 owners

I just ordered an SB112. I came close to getting the 212, but I like the portability of the 112. The weight difference is close. My intentions are to order another 112 cab in the near future. I think it's going to come down to your preferences/needs.

I play through the 212 Neo and it's been a great cab for me. I've been gigging with it pretty steady for over three years not and haven't had any issues. I like the neo speakers for their weight and at 2:00am, it makes a big difference. Some say that there is a difference in tone but since I haven't been able to A/B it against another Avatar cab, I couldn't tell you what it is. I know it's nice and punchy with plenty of highs and bottom.

I've read from Bill Fitz that there is no advantage to the Delta driver. Even though it's rated for more thermal wattage, the xmax is about the same so practically it will output the same. It will just be heavier than the newest NEO cab.

(correct me if I'm wrong)

So, the avatar 212 will put out much more volume than any avatar 112 cab. It comes down to volume vs. portability.

After looking around it looks like "theoretically" 2x12 should go lower (bigger cab volume, 2 drives push more air) and have more clarity at lower end of the range (the volume per drive in 2x12 is actually less then in 1x12) while maintaining mids.. just wish someone who owns both could give hands on review!

hell with it thnx for helping me make up my mind my 212 has been shipped. :hyper:

just went and checked xmax on Neo vs regular, and Deltalite II is rated at 4.9mm and regular LF Deltas at 4.8, with lower SPL.. now this is not necessarily the exact drives Dave uses, but if they were the 2x12 NEO should distort less and be slightly louder at the same power then 1x12.

The 1x12 is voiced a little deeper - or maybe it is that the low mid's hump is less pronounced. The 2x12 isn't bad, but the SB-112 is really, really good.

The Delta LF has a little more solid low end than the neo that Avatar uses. Not enough to justify the weight though.

The 2x12 will go louder than 1 SB112 so if getting to the max db under $400 is the deciding criteria - well that will do it. A pair of Sb112's would be my choice though ...

I'm in a similar boat. I really like Avatar. Great combination of cost, weight and tone. I have the older B112 cube. Picked that up for practice and small gigs. Nice, compact cab and sounds really really good.

I have been thinking of moving to an Avatar 210 and 115 or a 212. OR, I have been thinking of picking up another 112 cab. I like the cube.

I had the cube for a while. Looked for ages for another to pair it up with. I couldn't find one so I offed and snagged the 2x10. Later got the current model SB112 and sold the 2x10. The SB112 is pack of the litter tonally. At least IMO.

I have a B212 and use to have a SB112. I got the SB112 for smaller gigs and for its portability. BUT, it didn't have the output I needed. I was constantly clipping my amp. I sent it back to Avatar and got the B210. It was basically the same sized cabinet, with a lot more oomph. I have not clipped using the B210.

Re: the B212. It is a great cabinet. It can handle my Conklin 7 string much better than the SB112, naturally. It is very light for its size and has not disappointed me at all.

On paper anyway, the Deltalite that Avatar uses ought to have more excursion than the Delta LF as well as more sensitivity, so not sure what this bizness is about it having more low end. The deltalite has a much lower FS also.

Hmm. Delta 12LFAs have about half the VAS of a deltalite. Wonder if that plays a role in it working better in the 212-sized box.

I actually found another about 2 hours from me. I just can't get there and the guy won't ship (non-TB). I'm really interested in pairing it up with the other 112, or trading it for a 210. I have a 115 locally that I can pick up (and may anyway).

I have two of the 112 cubes and I will NEVER sell them! Why they stopped making this fantastic little club killer, I have no idea. They can get a bit loose in the lows if you really crank one up, but the second one fixes that issue by easing the work load. I currently run one of them on top of a little Flite 1155 (15+ 5"mid) with a Shuttle 6 and it sounds HUGE. Currently having a rack-width 212 built, partially on the strength of these Avatars.
