QSC K-series P.A. Rig?

My understanding is that the 10's work better with the sub than the 12's do with the sub. The 12's can tend to sound a bit spongy as they and the sub cover some of the same frequencies. 12's work better without the sub, but in combo the 10's sound clearer... my understanding.

They will all--K12, K10, or K8--overlap the sub if you don't set their switch to "EXT SUB."

RCF makes some pretty damned nice affordable powered cabs too.

* look at an RCF 412A - QSC doesn't post charts officialy for the K12, but the charts I can find are a bit...covered in candy so to speak (106db @ 80hz seems unlikely). Either way I'd imagine the 412-A compares pretty favorably to the K12 based on what I'm seeing chart-wise.

* The 312A is a bit cheaper but not as high a performer

Does anybody know if the pass through in/out on the K212 sub acts as a crosover much like a crossover would in passive subs?

I am wondering if I need to worry about clicking on the "ext sub" button on the K12 top that I use if I plug them into the out of the sub????

It's not a crossover. The sub has a bandpass filter, and passes the signal unaffected through to its outputs. IOW, both the bottoms and the tops do their own filtering; setting the tops to Ext Sub raises their HPF to 100 Hz to complement the sub's LPF.

... well, that's how I understand it, anyway. Bob will probably say I've got it completely wrong now... :-)

You got it right. The "outputs" you speak of are just pass-throughs. You just run full-range audio into all of them and each box does its own filtering ("EXT SUB" = 100 Hz high-pass, complementing the 100 Hz low-pass in the KSub or KW181 subs).

Yet another gig and the system just gets better. I added a mac and ipad to my presonus so for sound check I can actually walk out out front and adjust the band, no running back and fourth. I didn't worry about the bass at that point. I am thinking of turning my k12 tops into monitors and getting a pair of 10's for the tops. The 12's are so good I could stop using my bass amp on stage. Any thoughts on this idea?

Depends on the venue

Depends on the venue

I suppose it would but it wouldn't be for the room just my stage peeps. In my case I use an IEM of the fronts couplewd with a rolls 350 to add a bit of me as I know it isn't a good reference.

My drummer uses IEM as well so has all the bass he needs.

I think I'll pull the trigger on the 10's this week. I can also use them in my dow where the 12's are just over kill.

I have also hard that when coupled with the Ksub the 10's actually work sound better than the 10"s.

Well it's only money. I have been surfing for reviews of other tops to use s monitors.

I've been thinking about the K-series for a "satellite/sub" system for my live looping chillout if I integrate Ableton on a Mac for my loops. Most venues are small-scale cafe type locations, but it'd be nice to have that pump when the party got goin'. It'd be for bass guitar, loops of hand percussion, drum machine and a bit o' synth and random samples. What size tops would you all think would work well with a single sub?

We tested our new 153s and 181 setup outside yesterday. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Very loud with huge low end punch and hi fi clarity. I'm finding it hard to think of a situation where these will not be sufficient for us.

I like the QSC's fine, used the K12's and KLA's, I was a little surprised at how much EQ was required, but sounded good. I've gotten a little spoiled by Yorkville NX55P's, they need less EQ than any speaker I've ever used, certainly less than any other Yorkville speaker. I'd be curious to hear them side by side with K12's, also curious to try the NX35's, same drivers in an unpowered box, to see how much fixing is done in the amp module.

Well two gigs with the k10's as tops and k12's as mons. Not bad. I just picked up the Mackie DL1604 iPAd mixer and it is a wonderful combination. I have been using a presonus 16.0.2 but I had to use a mac notebook to be able to remote with the iPad. The mackie uses the iPad as a removable controller. Nice. I did sound check and pre band check remote with my iPad then kept the iPad on a littel music stand attached to my mike stand. Great for subtle changes and effects on off. Lol I did sound check at the bar and the bartender loved it :)

I have to admit the QSC system seems a bit heavy in the low end. I only use 1 sub and I do run the tops with the sub switch and vox boost on. Not a compaint as I can fix it with the eq. BTW the mackie has a 32 band eq on the stereo outs and all 6 aux outs as well as 4 band eq on each of the 16 channels.

Anyway I also kepy my modest bass rig (see my sig) turned way down and fed the stage with my bass out of the 12's to see if I could get away without my bass amp on stage.

Everybody seemed to hear me fine as did I. I noticed a dead zone when I backed away from the mons until I entered my bass zone if you will.

Well rock on folks.
