As I recall from the YouTube vids, you need to attach a router if you want to undock or use other remote ipads. Bluetooth wouldn't give you much range. You can store mixes and channel presets.

I'm not a geek but I'm looking hard at 1608 and it seems to require a wireless router, no computer, for wireless ipad control. Size/price/capability function it looks impressive. The presonus has the ability to multittrack record whereas the mackie is just main mix. But it's direct to the ipad and usable without a computer.

I'm a real geek with my Presonus SL and Mac Pro with a half dozen iPads on stage, but I bought the Presonus because I can operate it without a PC if need be. I'm not sold at all on the Mackie thing. I've seen it and played with it for a couple weeks and like almost anything else made by Mackie in the past 10-12 years, I'm just not real sure it will work every time. Mackie really never has addressed the faulty ribbon cables and QC issues in their Chinese factories.
Digital mixers aren't for everyone and each has their own comfort zone. To clear things up the Mackie does require an iPad and if you want to go wireless you need a router. It can be technically any router but they recommend the mac which I bought. It is small and once set up it retains it's settings. In my case it is ready before I even finish plugging in the power connector to the mixer and turning it on. Sure as with any mixer, digital or analog something could go wrong and I suppose the digitals could be even more prone. One cool thing about the mackie is that if the iPad fails it will keep on running with all the settings last saved from the iPAd. You could keep on going I suppose using the gain controls. I try to carry a small 6 channel analog mixer as backup. Try is the word 
The thing I find is that iF you want wireless ability on a budget I think this is the cheapest way to go. If you want laptop size this is the way to go. My mixer, iPad and router all fit in a large laptop bag. Finally do you want to just leave the mixer in the corner and mix from am iPad on a music stand this is the baby.
I apologize for accidently stealing this thread I only wanted to complete the story of my QSC system.

Don't apologize, it has been interesting. The system isn't for me (yet anyway
), but as a techie I love hearing where the technology is going.
Glad no one is upset I moved us along. I agree with the comments on the Presonus, you do need the mac to use the iPAd remote and you need it for anything advanced above mixing such as backups of settings or recording. BTW the Mackie allows a stereo recording of the FOH mix right to the ipad. I gather you need a DAW program to really be able to listen to it but that is a cool feature.
Some pro's on the Presonus is the flexibility in outputs. It has 4 aux outs, stereo out, mono out, control room out and headphone out. I do miss these in the Mackie which has 6 aux outs, stereo out and headphone out. But you must choose the features that are important to you and go for it.
