I have k12s for my mains. Fried the cheap mackie thumps we had as floor monitors. Looking for either the qsc or the yamahas. Opinion?

Qsc k10 vs Yamaha dxr 10 for floor monitors

Let me expand this:
New Yamaha dxr10
Used qsc k12s- same price as new yamahas
New qsc k10s- $250 more
New Yamaha dxr10

I don't know your specific situation, but I find it hard to believe your thumps just "fried' from normal use. I obviously don't know what happened, but in my opinion either you got a bad batch (which I've heard of happening with thumps) or you did something wrong with them. My band uses thumps as monitors as well and use them for rehearsals and I would have no problem using them as mains for gigs.
As for those possibilities we use k10's as mains and they are definitely very nice. I have no experience with the Yamaha's, but I like anything Yamaha. If I were you I would looking to the Alto TS line. They are the same price point as the thumps, but better in my opinion. They come in 10's, 12's or 15's. I would get the Altos or another set of thumps before shelling out the money for the k10's or Yamahas.

The thumps were refurb by Mackie to begin with, so I was suspect. Plus all the reports of them cutting out. I bought 2 because they were cheap, even with the extended MF warranty. One just doesnt power up any more. The other is distorted at all volumes. They were never abused. We know what we are doing with pa stuff. With extended warranty i get full money back on them. Just looking for something more reliable. Would rather stat away from the alto/mackie/behringer stuff for this. Playing bigger and bigger shows and cant afford monitor issues mid show. I am already scrambling to find monitors for tonights wedding i have to play
If you guys know what you are doing so well I'm not sure why you are asking for opinions. Also if you think Alto is at the same level as Behringer and Mackie Thumps I would consider you mistaken. I'm also not sure why are you considering Yamaha because most people would put them closer to Alto/Mackie/Behringer than to QSC. I'll take it as you got a bad batch of Thumps, because Thumps are more than capable of being good monitors. If you already use k12's as mains and I'm assuming you like them, I'm not sure why you wouldn't just stick with QSC.

I have not read any review anywhere that put Alto in the same category as qsc or Yamaha, yet there are pages and pages comparing the yamahas and qsc (and some jbls as well) and not on any single one does anyone sing the praises of Alto. You are comparing $299 alto 12a to the $600 to $700 for the yamaha and qsc? Alto-mackie thump-behringer are all in the same PRICE ballpark.. If you are saying the Altos are the best of that bunch, I am glad to hear it but I am not shopping in that range right now. I value your input and thank you for your opinion though

Also... I am usually a proponent of "buy once, cry once" and I didnt follow that with the thumps, so maybe I have a little buyers remorse. Luckily i got the warranty on them. That being said, when the mackie's worked, they were fine as monitors. I am looking more now at reliability, which the mackie's lack and I cant seem to find anything on the reliability of the Altos. I have used the Qsc speakers for a while without the slightest hitch. Plus i get a 7 year warranty on the qsc. I am simply asking for feedback on a comparable (by most, it seems) product

The dxr even has a better warranty, 7 years compared to 6 I believe on the qsc speakers.
no exp with yamaha's but own a pair of K12's and K10's as well as two Ksubs. The layout of the gig determines which is the top for the night. Both are great as mons or tops.
I was comparing in terms of quality, build and sound. The Alto's have the reputation of outperforming anything in their price range. I did not try to make it sound like they are as good as the QSC's etc. They will not be as good, but they would be much better than anything in that price range. That was why I was saying don't compare them to Behringer etc. I would put them at the midrange between Behringer and QSC.
If I were you I would stick with QSC.
