qsc k12 xlr input too loose

our band just bought a pair of these k12s to use as stage wedges/monitors. the XLR input connection (it's a combo jack to take 1/4 too) does not provide a tight fit, and the cable fell out several times during our gig this weekend. anyone else have this problem? anyone know if i can swap out the input jack for a locking one without having to solder or anything? i did a search and found that this is a common problem, but on the QSC forums there is no solution, yet.

i'd like to just remove the jack and put this in

but i don't want to pull out the jack if it's not a simple replacement.
 
I have several K12's and I've never had this happen although I certainly would have preferred a locking input jack. Have you ruled out the mic cable as the culprit? Does this happen on both of your K12's or just one of them?

Regardless, changing the jack will require soldering but I wouldn't do anything that voids the 6-year warranty. I would have one of the jacks replaced by an authorized service center (ask if it's covered under warranty) and see if that fixes things.

In the meantime, get some needle-nose pliers and slightly bend one of the pins of your XLR cable so it doesn't fall out. Or use gaffer's tape to affix the cable to the wedge so there's no tension pulling on the connector.
 
it happens on both monitors, and with different XLR cables. there are several people complaining about it on the QSC forum. i'll rule out trying to affix a new jack.

regarding getting it fixed, i'm just afraid that a replacement jack will have the same problem. QSC told me to send it in to get fixed.
 
It's entirely possible that Neutrik released a bad batch of jacks that found their way into the QSC boxes (sometimes a variance of only a few thousandths of an inch can foul up a part's performance but still be considered in tolerance). It's equally possible that a replacement jack will perform properly.

However, you should specifically request in writing that the technician tests the new jack for proper performance with an XLR cable BEFORE installing it. Furthermore, when you pick up the repaired unit from the authorized repair shop, bring your XLR cable to test it on-site. Refuse to take delivery if the problem is not fixed and point out that you left written instructions to test the parts before installing. Hopefully it won't come to that but make sure you cover your bases just in case.
 
thanks for the input guys. i just sent bob a message. hopefully get this sorted out without too much pain. and testing1two... you're definately right... i have a combo jack on another amp that is way too tight. 4mal, yeah... in the wedge position it wants to fall out. that was a differentiation people made on qsc's site ... on speaker poles, no problem, but as wedges, they rattle out easily.
