Quality inconsistencies Dunlop Super Brights?

Slightly off topic: how do well used NYXLs sound like? Do they go dead? Do they sound "vintage"?

That is not just slightly off topic.That is something completely unrelated to this topic.You are probably better off starting a new thread on that.All strings go dead eventually except flatwounds I guess. And once they are dead I guess you could call that sound "vintage"

Just popping in to thank all of you for filtering out the bad strings.

I had these on auto delivery for a few years. I’ve gotten one set that had a poorly terminated ball end, IIRC. Dunlop sent me a few sets to apologize.

Otherwise, I’ve either been really lucky, or you guys are amazing at keeping the bad sets from me.

In all seriousness, I do empathize with those that have had bad experiences. It would certainly end my usage if I repeatedly received bad sets. Fingers crossed.

That's interesting to hear all the bad experiences. Dunlop makes a regular stainless string and ive always looked for them. They haven't let me down and ive played a few sets of them. I think they are the string Les Claypool uses these days. Im curious to know what the difference is between how they build these and the superbrights which are obviously a hit or miss.

If replacing defective strings is "not foreign territory for them", that tells you something about their overall QC.

I was once considering ordering a set of Dunlop Flats to try, but after reading a few posts about their intonation issues, I said no thanks.

Where did you read about the intonation issues with their flats? I just paid $100 for set (it's in the mail). A bit worried now. Thanks.

To be clear and to be fair to Dunlop, I've not bought or used Dunlop string for more than a year at this point. Darryl at Dunlop acknowledged a production issue pertaining to core wire last year, but I can't speak to what Dunlop is producing now.

Since, as far as I'm aware, nobody else has echoed the same or similar problem with Dunlop strings on TB in the last year that might be worth considering, at least correlatively.

I have been using the MM SS SUPER BRITES for the last few years. Love them. Consistent and sizzle last quite a while. Last two sets had the the dead E and A string almost right off the bat. Contacted Dunlop and jumped through the hoops explaining my experience and they promptly sent me two new sets. Strings are mass produced so I hope this is just a small hiccup in manufacturing. I want to be able to continue to use these strings because of my original reason for being satisfied with them.

I love the sound of Super Bright nickels, but they’ve been a headache to intonate more often than not. I often have to adjust the A-string saddle out so far that the saddle nearly comes off the screw. No other strings I use have this issue.
