All 5 electric basses I have are great quality, and the only things I'd kinda like to have are an original Gibson EB-1 and a Gibson EB-2.

I have decent basses already, so I would probably get a Universal Audio LA-610 channel strip.

Why would you want a bunch of cheap basses? It's a tool, not a fashion accessory.
I want basses that could be lifetime basses. Mostly, MIA Fenders, Gibson, Guild, Rickenbacker.
These days my preferred basses are vintage. I’ve paid a bit more than 2K. But for a new bass a MIA Fender would be a lifetime bass.

My boutique preferences run far more spendy than $2,000 apiece, so I'd buy a pair of my custom mexi-P's. Or the 4HH Stingray I've been wanting to try.
Hands down quantity--if I had room to store them all. Even cheap basses can be quite good or made so with some tweaking. And I expect some expensive basses don't live up to the hype.

I voted against the tide only because I'm looking at my basses and most are in the $500-600(used) range which is really my target because I feel that you get the most bang for your buck. I certainly appreciate higher-end instruments and own a couple but I really enjoy the process of deciding which one I'm gonna play on any given night. The P? The J? PJ? Active or passive? Vintage or modern? Variety is the spice of life and I'd rather have options than just one really expensive bass. That's just my take. It's nice to have a wide tonal variety.
At one time accumulated a bunch of souped up MIM basses ibanez and such basses. Nothing worth more than 600 on a good day. I had to eat some losses to move it all. Now I'm a medium quality (in the grand scheme of things) and quantity kinda guy. I've got some cheap sentimental instruments left around. But my main stable is a stingray, two ebmm sterling, a us sun sterling, a fender P and J (they're Frankenbasses but thier to my liking and never getting sold) and really that's it's. Working on a bongo. Maybe and MIA jazz. Leaning more towards amps and cabs these days. Just reluctant to spend the cash right now
Since a lot of guitars I'm interested in are in the $1k neighborhood, I could see the case for having two, even though I'm pretty monogamous with instruments as a rule. I'm sorta gasing for the fretless version of what I last purchased - it would have cost me about $2k to buy both of those together.
Maybe “cheap” was the wrong word. I should have said “inexpensive” instead. I was referring to price cheap, not quality cheap. I mean Many basses can be had at decent prices. They’re not cheap in quality necessarily. But they’re cheap in price compared to basses in the 4 figures range.

Quantity ! Hate to hurt feelings, not a lot of difference between a $2000 bass and a $500 bass . By 2 $500 basses and spend a $1000 on a killer amp!
This is an interesting thread from the upright side of things, because 2k still buys you a low level bass basically. I've got well over 2k into my 'nice' setup, and a lot of orchestra guys would consider it absolute junk... Lol.

I had a LA-610 MK II for awhile. Nice preamp overall, but I found the compressor/limiter side of the unit to not be up to my own needs on such a device, and the two band EQ was of very limited use for me, too. A Solo/610 would be what I'd buy in the future if I were to go that route, again.
I voted quality, but really if I were in the same boat I wouldn't buy anything at this point. Buying because you have money to spend is infinitely less satisfying to me than buying because you really want something.
