Quality used 6-string for under $1000?

Heh, I was just going to suggest the SR506.

It's actually a fine bass. Have you considered spending your money on upgrades instead of a new bass? I don't know about yours, but mine has a nice straight neck, good frets, etc. If I was going to drop some money on it, I'd get some new pickups and a botique preamp.

If you really want a new bass and like that Ibanez feel, take a look at Tobias. I have a Tobias Standard 5-string (one of the 400 or so made in the early 90s) that feels a *lot* like an Ibanez, with a nice thin neck. I paid $650 for a 5-string I think, you should be able to get a 6-string for under $1000. You might also look at a 90's Warwick, maybe a Corvette 6-string. It will probably have the closer string spacing like the Ibanez, and from what I understand the old all-wenge necks are pretty thin, not like the baseball bats Warwick puts out now. Never played one though so take that with a grain of salt.

yup they are!
the john myung is nice and comfortable to play, and sounds great.
i've had mine for alomst 10 years now and i still stuns me to listen to it, i don't play it all the time cause my carvin 4 string is more practical to me, but when i do i smile!
the ebony finger board is nice and bright sounding and the 35" scale gives an awesome mid rangey tone. i really suggest it!

Check out the SR706. It's alot cheaper than your $1000 budget.

The 706 is exactly the same as the 506 except it has a flamed maple top. I own the 706. The electronics and hardware are exactly the same on both models. A 1/4" top won't change the sound or feel.

To the OP:
Try out a pre 1999 Warwick if you can. The wenge necks are great.

The Peavey TL-6 on the left was $395.00 on ebay. The Carvin LB76 on the right was $475.00 on CL. The green TL-6 is actually my main player. I highly recommend either for the money.

By far, the best 6'er I've ever played for under $1K was a USA Peavey Cirrus. I sold my Redwood Cirrus 6 for $825 a couple months ago (moved back to 5'ers), so deals can be had. As a matter of fact, check the classifieds, I think I remember seeing one up right now in that price range.

Everyone says that but have you had a chance to play a TL6? Most everyone I know that does prefers the TL's over the Cirrus, for less money. The electronics however, are a different story.

I was going to say Carvin as well. Although I dont play 6's myself, I do own one of their 5's and you cannot beat the workmanship for the $$. :)

Also, Carvins have inexplicably low resale values so you should be able to land a nice one and stay well under your budget.
The only caveat is that the neck might not be as slim as the Ibby.

I've also heard good things about the Peavey Cirrus but I've never played one in any format.
