question about a Fender jazz fretless?

I have a 2008 fender jazz fretless, I really dont play it much, my question is,

is it normal to have a fairly loud buzz?
(it is louder when i turn up the treble, this should be ok)

I am use to playing a ibanez active and a fender pj active the fretless is about twice as loud,
I also notice on the 2 active basses that when the volume is set in the middle there buzz is louder than when it is set all the way up.
thanks all
Rich

Probably a stupid question, but do you have both volumes set to the same level? Sounds like neither of your other instruments are single coil. If you have never encountered single coil hum before, this might be what you are noticing. If the noise only appears when you have one pickup louder than the other, then it is single coil noise which is perfectly normal. If it bothers you, get humbucking J pickups and swap them out.

With standard single coil jazz pickups on fretted or fretless, if the volume pots are raised equally ie. full on, 1/2 each, etc., they are somewhat hum cancelling. If either is soloed and the other is down, they can be quite noisy.

This is why I've got " noiseless" pickups in all three of my jazz basses.(2 are fretless)

Thanks all, I do have a pevey bass that I installed an emg jazz p.u active, it is older like 20years ago.
It looks like a single coil p.u and this has never given me a buzz/hum,,,the other basses I have dont have single coil,

I guess the noise is normal when you use just the one p.u,

ok I just checked the bass, yes the buzz/hum is better with both volumes turned up, turn up the treble and it is really bad turn it down and its still there just deadened a bit.

Not sure how much buzz is normal but I really cant see playing this at a loud volume. I will check the pots and caps/coils to see if there is an issue,,,
