Question about a weird bass volume thing

Hi! New here (lurking for awhile). I have a question about one of my basses. So I have a Sterling by Musicman Sub Series bass (the cheap one). It's sorta quiet (even with a new battery).

But when I put some pressure on the instrument cable up by the jack, the volume suddenly gets louder.

My question: Is that just something with the inside of the jack? Like adjusting the connectors (whatever it's called) int he jack to there's a better, solid connection?

Thanks!

Sounds like something isn’t making the correct connection.

Take the control panel off where you can see the jack, and see if is making a solid connection. If it sounds good like that where it didn’t before, one of the jack connectors might be hitting the side of the cavity, not allowing a positive seat. Twisting it a touch might give it clearance.

Solder joint might be not correct either, try reflowing the solder. Just a few thoughts across my brain.
