Welcome to TB, go find a really nice used "NEW TO YOU" amplifier. You should be able to get something for $300 and have considerably more amp. BOB
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend...200-200W-1x15-w-Tweeter-Bass-Combo?sku=482902 for new? Don't endorse buying from these folks, just a link for the combo. Used (new to you) is a good way to go.
Also check out the Gallien Kruger Brat Pack and look around for older used Peavy TNT combos at around 150 watts. Still not enough amp for my EQ tastes but workable if you keep the low end EQ a little on the light side. Other Amps to look for are the Older Crate BX160 chorous and non chorous models. Those were pretty loud but lacking in low end. Check out a music go round. They often have tons of used gear are rediculous pricing, try some pawn shops, Try guitar center and many of the vendors on this site. Call around play around but for $300 a old peavy 2 x 15 cab and a mark head at 300 watts could be found for under $300 but be for warned peavys are sort of honky in the mid range.
try to find something over 200 watts that you feel comfortable handling and fits your budget. do not be shocked when you find a plethora of amplifiers in this price range. In fact looking at old peavey heads and Cabs may turn up more power per $$$ spent. Big thing with bass is having enough power to be heard. Once you get there then you need enough power to be heard with the tone you want. Thats a whole other topic and thats when you really start spending money.
Hey guys, i was at GC today, and was just looking around by the bass amps and i see http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gallien-Krueger-Backline-112-Bass-Combo-103055976-i1145822.gc, im pretty sure it was a GK, i saw the Backline 112, same spot and all and look the same so im guessing it was, but in stores it said 199.99, and online it says 299.99 maybe it's used but what you guys think??
that ashdown Five Fifteen seems pretty good, but then again i dont kno too much about amps. i mean is 100W good enough and can be heard over a drummer 1 guitarist and the singer? lol
mmkay cause i wanna make sure im buying something that can be heard, instead of buying something that i "think" is enough watts but waste money finding it cant.
A 15" will give more sound than a 12" in a single driver application. Don't know how true the Ashdown's power rating is or if it will drive a second cab? When I played in a high school Jazz band I used a 50 watt tube amp and a large box that was a full bass reflex 12" and had no troubles. There is more than just wattage to concider. Single 15" is a better bet than a single 12" in a small box. Look into the Acoustic B100 combo, larger box usually means more low end with less power. You want to be absolutely sure your heard a G-K 800rb with a 212, 410 or 215 will leave no doubt!
