question about cabinets and television sets!

my tv has trippy colors all over it, im wondering and this is just my hypothesis here if the magnets in the cabinet(if there are magnets in a cabinet had something to do with the seemingly permanent obviously magnet caused streak that chooses to stay near the bottom of my tv screen ever since i bought the darn things.

in other words did the cabinet being less than 1 foot from the tv cause this weird streak?

You're talking CRT TV here right?
CRT's use electromagnets to direct the electrons across the screen. External magnets placed too close will screw this up.

Move the speakers away.
Turn the TV on, then off, wait a bit, and repeat a few more times.

Everytime you turn on a CRT you hear a big thud. It has a degaussing coil that will counter any magnetic field picked up and stored in the CRT or steel chassis, like from speakers placed to close, the earth, etc. Hopefully it's strong enough by itself to fix this. If not you're going to need to run down someone with an degaussing coil - good luck - this technology just isn't around much anymore.

Not too many people looking to put together home theater's using CRT's these days. :)
