Question about DiMarzio AREA P+J DP251BK Pickups

I have an older set of Area P + Area J pickups in a Mustang. Since this set has been discontinued, I don't know where in the Pickup-Pecking Order (the PPO) they exist. When I look now I see a DP126 P+J set, a Relentless PJ pair and a Sixties PJ pair. The last 2 sets cost more. All are for a 4 string bass.

What set do my DP251 Area P+J most compare with?

All I can find is some useless fluff ad copy about how they'll bring World peace and solve World hunger.

"This set is the complete package, teaming up the Area P Pickup with the Area J Pickup.
The DP250 Area P 4-string Pickup from DiMarzio has everything you're looking for in a great vintage sound. It's a nice warm tone with awesome sustain.
With the Area J you get a pickup that has a precise attack, with a tone that hits in the center. It has clean, clear lows and silky, open highs.
It has reduced pull thanks to its' Alnico II Magnets, which you can wire in either series or parallel humbucking depending on what you're looking for."

I've tried jazz versions of DiMarzio Model J, Ultra J, and Area J. The Model J is instant God of thunder, Ultra J is like hot wound single coils, and the Model J is kinda sorta in the middle of those two ends. when I was busy I kept a J loaded with Model Js and another loaded with Ultra Js and used whichever was best suited to the situation at hand. The model Js were best for blues and rock while the Ultra js were preferred by my country picking friends, especially the pedal steel players. I never asked why that was, I just did my best to fit in. :smug:

Area P sound great alone on P bass, Area J sound sweet in pair on Jazz bass. But i never like Area PJ voice much myself. DP126 sound better and balance than Area PJ . Any alnico V P pickup with 10.5k-11.5k ohm work nice with Ultra J too. If you go with Ultra J bridge pickup, must get the version which has raise A and D magnet pole pieces.

What set do my DP251 Area P+J most compare with?
Not much. Area P & J pickups are made with Alnico II magnets. Most aftermarket pickups today are Alnico V or Ceramic.

Alnico II pickups are considered "vintage-correct" and generally known to have lower output, smoother & warmer response.

Some pickups I know that are made with A2:
- Seymour Duncan Antiquity
- Fender Vintage Noiseless Jazz Bass set (both pickups)
- Fender V-mod set (one is A5 the other is A2)
- EMG JV52 set (similar to V-mod above)
