Question about Eminence Kappalite 3012LF

I currently own two Greenboy fEARless F112s. They’re both the same (no mirror image). I was going to order a fEARless F212 when I noticed the second F112 for sale on Reverb so I bought it. My problem with two F112s is two much mids/highs.
I’ve considered building a fEARful 12sub or 15sub to use with one F112, but I’m thinking of something else. I’m considering disconnecting the crossover in one of the F112s and running just the 3012LF in full range. Would I need a LPF for the 3012LF or am I safe to run it in full range? I’m pushing this with a Mesa WD800 and using the HPF to keep it in spec and to protect the driver.

I’m looking for some input on this idea, positives and negatives.

I would love to convert my F112 to a fEARful 12/6/1, but I’d saw off a finger trying to do it myself.

If you don’t like it do one of two things.

1) Sell it. They’re hard to find so you will have zero trouble finding a buyer.

2) if you’re capable do what I did.

A) Take the connector plate loose and with a soldering iron remove all of the connections that go to the Neutrik (SpeakOn) connectors.
B) Then solder a long lead from one of the two Neutrik connectors from 1+ and one from the 1- and drop them down in cab towards the woofer.
C) Make sure you connect the two Neutrik connectors together 1+ to 1+ and 1- to 1-.
D) Remount the connector plate and next remove the grille.
E) Take all the screws out of the woofer and lift it up so you can get to the connectors.
F) Remove the two leads and pull the woofer out. Wrap the ends of those two leads together and seal them off with a wire nut. Next wrap those wires up around some of the other wiring in the cab so they won’t drop down and lay on the woofer.
G) Next attach the two leads you dropped down from the connector plate to the positive and the negative to the speaker terminals. Make sure you have the positive lead going to the positive terminal a negative lead to the negative terminal.
H) Remount the woofer and grille, plug it in and enjoy!

I think up you be surprised at how efficient the 3012 LF woofer is. It covers some mids as well.

I never could keep the fEARless and fEARfull apart.

Well Andy. I disconnected the wires to the 2 Speakon connectors in the jack plate and replaced them with 2 new leads. I ran those 2 leads to the 3012LF, disconnecting the ones that were there.
I buttoned it up and was completely surprised at how good it sounded by itself. It reproduces quite a few mids. It’s deep, punchy and well defined.
When I stacked the full range F112 on top, it became a “monster” and will definitely cover whatever gigs I may have.

A switch to go between 3way and woofer by itself if you like the outcome of the woofer by itself?

I rewired it but the switch is the eventual plan.

I have a Fearful type 2x15 cab. I have never used the crossovers in it except for running a horn which I decided was better without it. Speakers are run full tilt (no passive filter). I control the low end cutoff with the TT-800 so speakers are not damaged by too much excursion. I just do not like the tone with passive filters.

I have to agree with you. In my F112 running the 3012LF woofer full range without the mids/highs sounds pretty darned good.

I agree. I tried one and it was too dark for my tastes. I did not care for it at all. There was no life in the sound of it.

That)s probably true but I’m thinking with the full range on top it’ll clean it up.

did you try turning the L pad for the HF driver all the way down, and setting both mid voicing switches to the “1” position?
There is an LC low pass filter in your existing crossover. You could just disconnect the feed to the mid/Hf sections.
