Question about Eminence Kappalite 3012LF

I currently own two Greenboy fEARless F112s. They’re both the same (no mirror image). I was going to order a fEARless F212 when I noticed the second F112 for sale on Reverb so I bought it. My problem with two F112s is two much mids/highs.
I’ve considered building a fEARful 12sub or 15sub to use with one F112, but I’m thinking of something else. I’m considering disconnecting the crossover in one of the F112s and running just the 3012LF in full range. Would I need a LPF for the 3012LF or am I safe to run it in full range? I’m pushing this with a Mesa WD800 and using the HPF to keep it in spec and to protect the driver.

I’m looking for some input on this idea, positives and negatives.

Do you have the original CBG crossovers or the upgraded, T3W ones?

Edit: You might have better luck attracting the attention of the folks with real knowledge about this subject by editing the title to include 'fEARless 112'.

You're right, of course. I never can keep that straight. I'd disconnect the mid and HF drivers in one cab and let the 12" driver run full range. If that doesn't tame the mids sufficiently, you could still consider low-passing the 12. But what do I know... I can't even keep up with the right names. :laugh:

How do you like the sound of each individual cab?

If they have too much midrange individually, and WAY too much together, you could just pad down the mids to make them sound more balanced to you.

Check out the build instructions at:

That ZIP file includes crossover design notes - with instructions for using the 18Sound mid or the Eminence, and getting either of them to balance.

Are you referring to just bypassing the LPF or just not use the mid/high drivers?
My thought was to install another rocker switch in the input plate and with one position going to the crossover and the other going directly to the 3012LF. That way it could be used either way. Whatcha’think?

That may need to do just that. Thanks fir the link. Right now I’m exploring an easier solution that may or may not work.

Building the sub version running full range.

There is no fEARless sub version. There is a fEARful subversion. Is that what you’re referring to?
Would disconnecting the mid/high in one of my F112s and running the 3012LF full work or at least be similar?

Yes and yes.

I never could keep the fEARless and fEARfull apart.

Disconnect the filters from the input.

I have a Fearful type 2x15 cab. I have never used the crossovers in it except for running a horn which I decided was better without it. Speakers are run full tilt (no passive filter). I control the low end cutoff with the TT-800 so speakers are not damaged by too much excursion. I just do not like the tone with passive filters.

fEARful = DIY, but Greenboy authorized builders could/can sell them if they want to. Two official crossover options, "Cheap But Good" and "True Three Way." Several other crossover designs were contributed early on in the project as well, including a couple of active solutions. At least 4 mid driver options that I can remember.

FEARLESS (sic): Proprietary grill screen (now defunct, I believe), wedge format and different mid driver for the 112, proprietary crossovers, no DIY support, authorized builders only.
