Question about Gibson : The grabber or the EBO ?

I'm trying to sell my old Gibson EB0 for a while because of some money issue.

I love that bass, that muddy old school tone but I really need to get some money and I actually don't play on ot every day, because of that so special tone.

Somebody proposed to exchange it with his "Grabber" from 1980.

I'm a bit confused...I was expecting for a new bass witch tone is near of the EBO's tone, but a bit more "modern" . I'm quite convincer it could fit the bill but I'm hesitating...

If someone could clear me...

Yep, I'll clear you, if your fed-up with muddiness, don't even consider another Gibson bass.

I'm not that fan of the muddiness...But I prefer thousand times that kind of tone than many basses that are built today.:smug:I like the vintage sound,but I'm trying to get nearer of a "precision" type sound...

Forgive me, but how is any trade going to help you if you "really need to get some money?"

What year is your EB-O? Although the Grabber is pretty cool (I always dug the sliding pickup) I'd warrant a guess that your EB-O has a higher monetary value.

That's my guess too...First if the deal would be ok, I might keep the Hipshot bridge and fit it the original. I'm thinking about asking him a bit monney .:hmm:

Those are original tuners for an 80s grabber. The last few years of grabbers didn't come with cloverleaf tuners.

As far as tone, the Grabber/G3 are about the farthest away from the tone of the EB basses as you can get. They are very much in the vein of a fender sound but certainly unique.

I would do the trade (+ a little cash on their end), but I'm also partial to grabbers and don't like EBs.

Actually I was unclear...sorry for that.
The Ebo is a pretty good bass, I like that tone, but if I sell it, it's because of that's not really adapted to my kind of style aswell (I play funk & jazz ).
The monney issue , I could forget it if I get a bass that pleases to me . :hiding:
Anyway, I 'm about to ask him some money to add...

As said above, the bridge on that bass isn't original. If you do replace the bridge I wouldn't both trying to find an original, just find one that fits well. The originals were just a little piece of metal, nothing special. That and the adjustment screws are really long (like unnecessarily) and sharp so if you play near the bridge at all with the original bridge you can expect to hit your hand on them fairly often. I ended up getting a repro bridge cover for mine so I didn't cut myself any more.

I was told that the previous grabber's owner did change the tuners, and did'nt give it to the current owner.

I guess it's not a G3 ? is it ?
(to me, G3=3 single coils)

The Grabber switched over to Schaller M4 tuners in 1980. The original owner may have swapped them, or the second owner may have assumed they had been swapped, but either way they appear to be period correct for a 1980 grabber.

The Grabber (what you have here) and the G3 (same body style with 3 single coils) are much more P-bass like than any other gibson IMO. The Grabber has more bottom while the G3 is very mid-focused, but they are nowhere near the mudbucker sound of the EB series basses.

I changed the EBO's bridge with a HIPSHOT supertone, that brigs more precision an sustain.
Actually I really don't like the classical "3 inserts" Gibson bridge, and we've planned that I would keep the hipshot and place it on the Grabber, and give him the original bridge with the EBO.

Just hope it fits perfectly well ; we would try it before etc...

I'm surprised, I was pretty sure that was changed !
The owner says it's not the originals... he was even ready to replace it with some vintage ones...
Well I can't wait to test it :hyper::hyper::hyper: !
