Question about iPods

We have a Video iPod from a relative that passed away. It's got about a thousand songs on it. We can use it with a SoundDock, but we can't use it with our iTunes. It won't transfer from the iPod to iTunes. Is there anyway we can save these songs to our computer?

I'm not sure. if you have the computer that the iPod got all its stuff off of you can go out and buy a stack of blank cds (don't actually cost that much) and go through the long process of burning all of them... other than that i'm not sure...

Transferring songs from someone else's iPod to your computer is considered a violation of the licenses of both the iPod and iTunes. That being said, there is plenty of illegal software out there that will do this for you.

if it's a PC. DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING (unless you want to), you don't have to.
just change the folder options so you can see hidden folders. go into the iPod_Control folder and search for .mp3 and .m4a files. make sure you enable "search hidden files and folders", then copy all those files into a non-hidden folder on your computer and import that folder into iTunes with the "Add folder to Library" option in the "file" drop down menu in iTunes

Yup, just like ThatGermanDude says it is as simple as showing the hidden folder, then drag and drop.

alright. here is the step by step:

- open my computer
- go to your iPod
- click on tools is the menu bar
- go to folder options
- select the "view" tab
- under "advanced settings" select "show hidden files and folders"
- click okay
- you should now see a folder called "iPod_Control"
- in this folder is a folder called "Music" and in there a bunch of folders called Fsomenumber
- click on search in the menu bar
-choose "all files and folders under "what do you want to search for?"
-enter ".mp3" under "part of file name"
- under "more advanced options" enable "search hidden files and folders"
- copy the results into a non hidden folder on your hard drive
- open iTunes
- under "file" select "add folder to library"
- select the folder in which you copied the files
- go back to your iPod and search for .m4a files and repeat above steps

I can see where that would work for music that already exists on my computer. Can I use that method to extract files from my brother in law's iPod?

yes. iTunes extracts music from mp3 format if you burn a disc from a playlist

funny when i go to my ipod there is no tools

are you on a mac? it should be between 'favorites' and 'help' up at top with 'menu' and 'edit'
