Question about Malekko B:assmaster

In this video demo is he using the assmaster or the assmaster germanium? From what he says in the beginning of the video makes me think he's got the germanium model. Does anyone know?

I really want one of these.

we have been very lucky as far as press goes...we've only been a company for a little over a year and already had 3 articles about us...and Guitar world is also doing a review of our bright and dark E600 delays as we speak...It was nice to hear from a delay junkie that he adores them (paul from guitar world)

IIRC I read on here that the germanium version was virtually indistinguishable from the original brassmasters, while the non-germanium version sounded a bit different and had a lot more gain.

I've got the non-germanium version and I love it

i've had the opportunity to hear 5 brassmasters and they each sounded a little different...so it's tough to say. I have matched a few B:ASSMASTERS for people to replace their brassmasters i usually start with Germaniums but my last one i went silicon. The Germ transistor and diodes can sound a LITTLE more mid-rangy, but the texture of the fuzz is right on. The regular has a ton more gain and is a hair harsher texture wise. I personally prefer our original...so does my business partner Paul. BUT we both like aggressive fuzzes. I made a germ version for Tool that sounded JUST like *my* brassmaster...i couldnt tell when the brassmaster was on or the B:ASSMASTER without looking.

Thanks, the germanium version sounds like it would suit me better. I'm very impressed with the soundclips I've heard but I think I'd prefer a smoother edge rather than aggressive. Might just have to pawn a kidney...

I've got a question for you if you don't mind Regarding the Bass knob on the B:ASSMASTER, where would the unity gain/volume be at? A full clockwise turn or?

I'm not Malekko, but I'm 99.9% sure that unity gain is always a variable thing. It depends on the other settings.

EDIT: One last thing to mention... what bass you're using can also affect what the unity gain setting is.

For me the Unity gain seems to be around 12:00. The overall volume ends up being pretty hot though because I also set the Ass volume at 12:00. For me that's the best combination to keep the Bass fundamental as to not get lost and the fuzz to get crazy.

He meant on the vintage brassmasters that they don't always sound the same. Quality control back in the 60s and 70s is nothing like it is today.

I was pretty skeptical of those "Buns of Steel" videos at first too, but now I'm a true Assmaster...all it takes is a little GAS.

the Germ transistor is an AC187 the germ diodes are 134a's ...i THINK

that is a big factor AND the fact of what did it do for those 30 or so years...how are the transistors compared to when they were new. I'm a synth nerd, i have a couple of old minimoogs, they both sound VERY different, same components same versions etc but they are very different instruments
