Question about Pickup wiring

Hello, I'm looking to switch the pickup on my starter bass. Its a dean edge E 09, with the stock dean pickup, which is real stale and crappy sounding. So im thinking about replacing pickup with this one http://www.bestbassgear.com/basslines-pickups-sjb1.htm

Now, whats confusing me is that it has two wires going out in the picture.

Theres only one cable.

What do I attach the extra cable to? or do I just leave it out?

Look at the other end of the 'cable' - it should have either two insulated wires inside or a single insulated wire with a bare-wire braided shield that connects to a grounding point (often the back of a pot).

The two wires on the new pup connect at those same points.

Why are you trying to put a Jazz pickup in a soapbar route?

You need two conductors to complete the circuit.
The pickup you have appears to have a single conductor shielded lead. The shielding around the wire is the ground.

The pickup you linked has separate hot and ground leads.

You do have two cables inside there. As has been stated, you'll have a grounded shield and the hot in the middle.

Not exactly the same, this is standard coax, but it gives you an idea:

Also, you should look at getting a pickup that'll fit in your pickup route.

Why are you trying to put a Jazz pickup in a soapbar route?

I thought it didn't really make a difference, and that if there was a problem with the placement i could just make something to bring it up.

Guess not...

Now im not sure what kind of soapbar pickup to get

Any recommendations?
