Question about volume pedals

An expression pedal allows you to control a parameter of an effect with your foot. Like gain, filter cut-off, or tremolo speed.

Ok I'll rephrase my question: if I put a volume pedal after, let's say, a fuzz, would I be able to use it to get a sweeping effect?
Sweeping effect? I guess you could put a volume pedal before the fuzz to control the gain that the fuzz gets. But, it all depends on the circuitry of the fuzz. I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for. A volume pedal usually goes towards the end of the signal chain before delay and reverb but alot of people swap it about to get some cool sounding effects.

If you're talking violin/cello-type volume swells, yeah, it'll do that.
If you mean that it will control a setting on the fuzz pedal, nope.
However, if you put the volume pedal before the fuzz, you can control the breakup and volume of the fuzz which interacts somewhat with the tone. Many guitarists do this with either a volume pedal, or by using the volume knob on their guitars.
However, you can turn a volume pedal into an expression pedal by using insert cables (cable that has two mono ends and one stereo end) and figuring out which way the plugs are supposed to go. However, this isn't usually ideal because the pedal sweep, potentiometer taper, and/or resistance of the potentiometer in the recomended expression pedal may differ from that of the volume pedal that you own.

A volume pedal is what you're looking for. Put it at the end of your signal chain but before delay and reverb if you have them.
