I have a Kern IP-777 (wall wart version, someone will have to steal it from my grave if they want it
) and have tried a variety of power amps. My favorite amps are a Yamaha P2200 (big iron, beer can sized caps, heavy, huge sound, did I say heavy?) and a Demeter tube prototype I rebuilt with a Shannon Parks designed driver and KT88 outputs (big iron, huge sound, can heat your house with it, 60wpc runs out of gas kinda quick, still heavy). I've tried a QSC PL236 which I've always thought was one of their better sounding amps to cut down on weight but it sounds so sterile and the fullness is gone. I see a lot of people using Stewart amps with the Kern, but don't want to buy one only to find sterility and empty bottom again. The cabs I run are a SWR Triad and an Accugroove Tri-112 and typically play rock music. As a side question, what tubes do you use? I currently have E-H 12ax7 EH's and a Genelex B749/12au7. After trying a boxload of different tubes, this combo was closest to the sound when it was new. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
