Question for the Collectors - 6+ basses

Scientifically, there is a proper number of basses. It's one more than you presently have.
It seems I’ve always had between five and ten basses. Usually two or three end up being favorites and I end up unloading the basses that fall to the back of the pack. I guess that makes me not a collector.
For me, I just enjoy the differences from one bass to the next. I love the sound of bass guitars, I enjoy playing them and I am good at bringing the best out of instruments which have been neglected/ignored/unappreciated and tend to be cheap to pick up. I enjoy doing that kind of repair and setup work, bringing a beater back to life and getting it to the point where it will outperform anything you pick up to test in a shop. I don't see the point in having multiples of the same thing, so they're all different brands and models, all have their own feel and voice and each gives me a different kind of enjoyment. I don't actively want more but, if I see some nugget going for around the €300 mark, particularly 80's MIG gold, I sometimes find it hard to resist. However, if it doesn't sound good, doesn't feel good, doesn't play the way I like, it gets eased on out the door. I want players, not brand names or ones I think I must have. I learned that the hard way and moved on a 4003 and &0's Jazz when I figured out there is no fun having instruments which you don't enjoy playing. There are no must haves if they don't meet the standard I want.
