Question for the masses

I tried a search and pretty much came up empty.
So........ If 2-10" are about equal to 1-15" in speaker area,
then 4-10" are about equal to 2x15" and 8x10 = 4x15. Right?

Why is the box so much smaller on the 2x10 and the 4x10? I thought the box needed to be a certain size to move enough air properly.

No flaming,ok? I really don't understand.

Thanks,
Ken R

in general I think a 210 is closer to a 112, 410 is slightly more effective than a 115. but as bill pointed out many other factors come into play to determine final loudness and effectiveness of a cab.

from small cab to larger I'd place them like this in order...
108
110
208
210
112
310
212
115
410
roughly...

if you want to calculate surface area the formula is 3.14 x (radius x radius) = surface area. so for a 110...

3.14 x (5x5) = SA
3.14 x 25 = 78.5 square inches.

You have to deduct the frame and surround from the raw driver size to arrive at cone diameter. The average ten has an 8-1/4 inch or so cone diameter, and an average area (Sd) of about 56 sq in.
