Question On Fender Values

Obviously we know that Ameriican made Fender basses either hold their value , but usually gain good value over the years. But in terms of investment return, say over 15-20 yrs., how would the "percentage " of gained value between these different basses be?

A. American
B. MIM
C. CIJ
D. "example" '62 R.I. put together w/ licenced parts from Ebay.

Always in motion, impossible to see, the future is. :D

IMHO, as a bass owner and a serious invester, basses are not good investments. Good investments are diversified. Owning a few basses (regardless of brand, vintage, etc.) is NOT diversified.

I advise that you own basses to make music with them!!! If you are rich, collect them for the "joy" of that. IMHO, a good investment makes 8+% a year for 50 years. Electric basses may not be of interest to anyone in 50 years.

All that said, buy the MIA Fender. Those workers need our support, and are doing their best to earn it. I see USA Fender quality improving lately.... :o

HI

The key to most collectibles is originality. Guitars, furniture, art, etc. When you start seeing basses with swapped necks, pickups, refinished the value drops quickly

Also, the more scarce usually the more valuable. Early Fenders and Gibsons fall into this. Many have gone oversees and many others have been altered from original. Makes it harder to find an original example, therefore driving up the price. Not to mention they sound and play real good. LOL

As far as one compared to the other, who knows. When I was a teenager(I'm 41) local stores sold used early '70s strats and teles for $275!!! How would u like to have a dozen of those right now? Our friend in high school had a 72 blonde strat. Wanted $250. Couldnt give it away. We were all into Charvel's, Dean's, BC Rich, Etc. We didnt want his "Lousy Fender". Dummies we were but we couldnt predict the future.
