Double Bass Question on the Vic’s Pickups models

I've used the Vic's Model C's bridge wing pickup, which at the pickup level is the same as the Model B, on both the E and G sides, and like with @Earl, found it better on the G side. E side was a bit boomy for my tastes.

What I dislike about the Vic is the critical placement of the element, pressure, etc.
The slightest change can drastically change the tone.
I prefer a pickup with a more predictable/stable output.

Admittedly my bridge is pretty off the wall, but I have had no consistency problems with the Vic's model C bridge wing pickup and my Deuce bridge.

But the Deuce bridge has built in slots on both sides of the bridge for wing pickups with provisions for threaded tension screws.

I have a small coin size wooden backing plate between the pickup and the tension screw which evenly distributes the tension. That might also help.

Clearly with dual piezo elements there are a lot of variables. But also I spend very little time and energy tweaking piezo positions. If I'm using the piezo pickup I'm not focusing on MBOL tone. If I want nicer tone in sensitive volume situations I use my mounted Sennheiser mic.

I have a model D.Twice the amount of careful filing to fit the piezo but well worth it.

I'm a longtime precision player and a relative upright noob but I'm very happy with mine.

Cool. I’d like to try one on my carved bass. I love the Model C on my Kay, but I don’t need the clicky pickup for the other bass and I’d like to see how the Model D responds on it.

From those I have at the moment, half an Underwood is the best. (the other half actually died recently)
