Questions about my bass

Abarson thank you so much for the information. Everything is original on it my father was a back up bass player for a couple bands this is one out of 13 he had.

Do you have any of the 12 other basses he had? Talkbass is a good source for bass info and everyone is pretty civil here if you have questions. And welcome to our "low down" forum.

And just in case you need to know what responders are referring to when talking about the parts of a bass guitar:
(brass nut, etc. (instument head is often called the "headstock"))

It definitely looks like an instrument from Matsumoku (cdef beat me to it)... I cannot speak specifically of this instrument, but construction-wise it looks very much like my first electric guitar back from 1984 (an Oakland XS-136 from the same factory). The quality of the wood they used was not superior, IMO, but the craftsmanship is very good, on par with any boutique manufacturer. It is a keeper...

Unfortunately I don't my mother kept one it's a purple marble one I don't know what the name of it is but it's extremely old and she gave one to my sister because her husband plays the bass it's a white one with I think 6 strings and it's marble also. But the purple and this brown one was my favorite.

My great uncle was a rag time blues artist "Chuck Edwards" he taught his sons and my dad how to play instruments. He also lent lol yes lent my uncles and dad out to other artist. My dad would talk about artists he played with.

That's funny and a great story, I bet your dad could tell some great stories. That bass is a real gem on it's own but combined with the sentimental value it's priceless! Why not start noodling around on it yourself, maybe you inherited some of your Pop's chops.

I tried but unfortunately I didn't get any of his musical talent, but I was blessed with vocals whereas my father could play many instruments and he learn naturally he could not sing.

Hello I wanted to ask a question about my bass I received from my father when he passed around 11 yrs ago. This bass is older then me and I'm going on 40 yrs old. It plays so smooth and is in excellent condition. How can I find out more information on it. I do not play the bass but I have friends who I allow to play it to keep it fresh and in tune for the yrs.
ThanksView attachment 3907879 View attachment 3907878 View attachment 3907879

Wow glad you cherish and are interested in finding out more about your Dad’s bass guitar. She’s beautiful! I inherited my Dad’s 1951 Martin 00-18 and when I hold it I feel so peaceful. I would encourage you to learn to tune it and play along on some of your favorite songs. Even one or two notes. Some here will scoff but I feel a spiritual connection when I play it. I will pass it on to my son...hopefully many, many years from now! Sorry to hear you lost your Dad but you still have a part of him to hold. That is awesome!
