Questions about PA systems...

Check out: http://www.daddys.com/

They have lots of used stuff they may work for you. I've had good luck with Peavy SP series p.A. cabs, SPII, SPIII, etc. They have some Peavey cabs for under $200 each.

Maybe the shipping is too much. The stuff I saw ships from Connecticut, about 500 miles from Nova Scotia.

At least you can compare what they are selling to whatever you end up buying.

what is gonna kill him is the customs fees.

If its just 1 vocalist, you could try craigslist for a used set of JBL Eon G2 15s. Get some cheap stands and since they have a mini-mixer on the back, you can run a mic straight into them. You might be able to pull that off for 700.

If its just vocals and more than 1, you could find a cheap small mixer. Even a basic Behringer would do the trick.

The problem with buying PA gear used/off of CL is that people still try to charge new prices or at least close to it b/c the market is so small. Even in Houston I have a hard time finding monitors that aren't more than new yet the carpet or tolex is ripped, have food/beer stains on them, etc.. It's ridiculous.

I'd save up for something decent you aren't having to flip in 6 mo's or just work out some 0% interest payments if y'all can. If I were doing a PA all over I'd nab the JBL Crown-powered 2x15 mains +1x18 subs. Killer, quick, and easy. :bassist:

I just got a used Yamaha EMX512SC powered mixer off Ebay for $350 and that was with shipping. It's in really good shape. We tried it out last Saturday and it has lots of power. We only run vocals also and it has lots of power to spare. Now we're not metal though...just some old 50 plus year olds playing classic rock but we do tend to get pretty loud. Right now we're just using 2 monitors(15" Kustom") and 2 mains(15" Behringers). Both brand of speakers are kind of cheap but they work fine. I do have my eye on a set of 4 15" JBL's I saw on Craigslist though. I imagine we'll continue to use the PA for only vocals. I don't know if there is enough power to run instruments and vocals plus I don't know if just 2 15" mains would work...even with the JBL's.
