Questions about strings on Starfire 2 Strings

Hi y'all. I have LaBelle Deep Talkin 49-109s on my guild Starfire 2. I decided I don't like the heavier guage, and want to go back to the 40-100s I had before. I have a few questions (excuse me for being a noob): will this require truss adjustments? Should I have made truss adjustments when I went to the heavier guage? What are your thoughts on loosening strings when the bass isn't in use, is it necessary?

Checking the amount of neck relief and tweaking the truss rod accordingly as needed should be part of any string change. Going from 49-109 to 40-100, the chances are you will need to loosen the truss rod as a result of the reduced tension.

What are your thoughts on loosening strings when the bass isn't in use, is it necessary?

I personally have always been in the habit of keeping the strings in proper pitch even when a bass sits unplayed for an extended period of time. It's just a matter of maintaining the equilibrium between the string tension and the counter-balancing effect of the truss rod.

If I were to have a sports car stored in the garage for the winter, I would make sure the tires are inflated to proper pressure.
