Questions on Paramore and using differents bass live

Hi Justin,

Firts, congratulations for the Paramore album! This album is awesome. Basswise, all the tracks sound's great! I specially like the tone and vibe in Ain't it fun! Do you remember the bass use and the signal chain ? For rest of the album I recognize your signature, fat, overdriven tone, and in the mix, the bass is perfectly in place! Awesome job!

Regarding using many bass of the same venues, I'm always having the same problem live when I"m using many bass. Gain, are always different from each instrument. I've try different EQ pedals, but never satisfied, I've found them "colorful" or my bass lost is character! Do you use your Sansamp PSA for that ? Does it keep the natural sound of yours basses ?? Do you use the effect loop of the PSA to run your effect ?? Or Do you have any suggestions? On stage I'm often using a 5 strings PJ, a Jazz bass tuning in Eb, and a Jazz or a Precision (sometime both) or an Hollowbody in standard tuning. Right now I'm using a MXR Micro Amp or a Demeter EQ, but, still not perfectly satisfy...

Thank you for your time.

Hope you all the best!

Thank you for the kind accolades!

For Jeremy's bass on Ain't It Fun, it was a Gibson G-3, going into my Fender Bassman and a Palmer DI, if memory serves. Every song has a different setup, however.

My PSA is a good solution for that, yes. With Beck live these days, It's more simple: I use the VTBass Deluxe pedal, which has six presets. Perfect.

I was lookinna the VT bass deluxe myself or the sansamp deluxe. Where do you place your effects, octaver, fuzz and overdrive with the VT bass, before after or innthe effect loop ?

Thank you for your fast answer!

Have a good one ;)

Vegas? Why the modulation into the VT? Just curious; I've never tried that. I just picked up a Möbius last month and the VT is about the only thing I don't have in its pre/post loop.

Thanks got the tip on the vt deluxe. This has been the single most helpful piece of gear I've purchased in a long time. The fx loop is a life saver!!!

What is your current beck setup?

Glad you like!

My current rig is:

Starfire + Mustang + '75 P Rounds + '66 P Flats + RD Artist --> Pedalboard w/ VT bass deluxe, Rusty Box, Aguilar Octaver, Line6 M9 JHV3 Modded, Korg Pitchblack +, Chunk Systems Brown Dog, Guyatone MD2, Guyatone Phaser -- > '70 SVT head ---> Acoustic 370 -- > '70 SVT cab. Live synths: Korg MS20, Access Virus Ti, Teenage Engineering OP-1.

One to try for starters: If you put your VT Bass after your OD/Distortion effects, it's a wonderful "enhancer/thickener" to use with them. I usually do mine after Octaver and Dirt, but before Modulations and Delays. Your ears are the judge in the end, however. ;)

I tried it before and after fuzz/od. I think it sounds better pre fuzz, at least with my set-up and this is totally subjective to your choice of bass, other pedals, rig etc. My Bass juice fuzz really likes the extra signal level the VT feeds it.
It's such a fantastic pedal, loads of different applications. I think I've yet to find a position in the chain where it doesn't add something to the tone.

That's why I always say you have to try it all to find what works for YOU. ;)
