Questions on Paramore and using differents bass live

For Jeremy's bass on Ain't It Fun, it was a Gibson G-3, going into my Fender Bassman and a Palmer DI, if memory serves. Every song has a different setup, however.

My PSA is a good solution for that, yes. With Beck live these days, It's more simple: I use the VTBass Deluxe pedal, which has six presets. Perfect.

Hey JMJ,

First, congrats on getting hitched!! Second, I think you did a great job on the Paramore album. It has a great sound. Same with Tegan & Sara, which I've never really listened to before their new album. Anyways, what sorta tunings did Jeremy use? I know the older albums were drop C#, atm I'm learning Still Into You & Ain't It Fun.

Can you shed any light on why Jeremy went from Fenders to Gibsons? he had a really gnarly Jazz tone, still a great bassist though, one of my favorite things about Paramore is how Jeremy isn't the Pete Wentz-type bassist who just does straight eighth notes. They're actual basslines.

Just out of curiosity, what tone do you use the Brown Dog for? I have one that I have set, but I've never been able to really come up with with a setting on it that makes me say "yes, I will never ever get rid of this pedal".

winterburn69: Gibsons came into play for Jeremy when his tech Riley showed up with his G3 one day at the studio. We tried it for one song, didn't work, tried it for another, and WOW. We were so pleased to find the voice of the song so quickly. It was a matter of EQ, sometimes the G3 didn't sit right because of the very squirrely midrange it has. I also am not a huge fan of the g string on that bass, it's a bit light and out of balance sonically from the rest of the strings. Anyway, it just kept making appearances on the record, and we loved it. He ended up buying two, I bought one. We also used one of my Rippers to good effect as well. Oh as far as tunings, we had some with C#, with the A string also sometimes likewise tuned down F#. Otherwise, there were several standard, several simply dropped D. Thank you for the kind complements!

k2aggie07: Brown Dog I use for various songs with Beck, and I tend to have it with the dirty at about 3 or 4 o'clock and the clean in there a bit, maybe at about 10 o'clock. The other controls I change constantly, but I try not to close the gate too much. Really makes the tone unusable at high settings, kind of like a fuzz factory or wooly mammoth.

I've been looking for a similar sound to this one
What effects/processing are used on the second verse?
gated fuzz?

Gated fuzz with octave, multiple exploding amps, and plenty of DI, but WITH the effects going through it...not a clean DI.

Justin, every time I listen to the latest Paramore, i'm amazed of the production quality.
You are a great example of how bass players naturally over look the entire ensemble.

Certainly true in my band
