Questions on selecting 10 inch driver with La-6CBMR

Hello I was wondering if eminence bp102 is suitable for building a 3 way cab. I already have the la-6 for mid range but could not decide on the woofer. After reading many posts I have decided on the bp102's but my amp is only 120 watts ...:crying: I read on the post that you need lot of power for these speakers.. Since I already have the la-6 for mids, I want something that produce good lows also I really want to stay with the 10's .. would there be any other driver you guys would suggest? s2010s...? maybe? also when usng l-pads for the mids and tweeters, does it have to be 100w at 8 ohm both? internal volume with 2.14 ft^3

Thanks

The bp102 can play really deep but has a low sensitivity, your 1-10 cab will be quiet and the mids and highs will have to be attenuated quite a bit to come down to the level of the bp102. The basslite s2010 would be a better choice. It's a closer match in SPL to the mid-driver. May not need an L-pad on the mid or at least not have to turn it down much. The cab overall will have more sound coming out per watt going in and should still play plenty deep having only 1-10 in 2cu.ft. Have you modeled all this in WinISD?

Thanks for your comment! Yes I did tried the winIsd but could not figure out exactly what to look for.. am I looking for smooth curve? :hmm: so would 2010 be a better match about ca2010? if using s2010 do I still need a mid driver? How will the low E would sound? Sorry I could not find my answer to other threads... Thanks

The s2010 is a pretty decent bass speaker, no problem with the low E. The response gets pretty choppy around 2-3khz but so does the LA6's. The advantage to using the mid-driver would be better dispersion, the 10 would start beaming around 1500hz. I find the mid range sounds more natural and less nasally or honky coming through a dedicated mid-driver, to me anyway, another reason to keep it in there. Look at the response curves on eminences site for the LA6cbmr, if you cross it over at 800 and 3k, you'd cut the spikes off either end and have a pretty smooth sounding cab. The s2010 averages around 95-96db up to the crossover point, the LA6 would be with 1 or 2db of that if you cut the spikes off either end. That would probably require building your own crossover. Ones that cross at 500 and 3 or 3.5k are quite common and can be bought already built. Check out www.bltsound.com for those. The ones that are "board-only" have some variety as far as different crossover points. That means you'd mount the circuit board to the wall of the cab and run wires to your input jacks. They make ones that are already on a jackplate that's an easier install but costs more. Check out www.carvin.com for a replacement crossover for the LS1503 PA speaker, that might be what you need. Crosses at 500 and I think 3k, ready to go with an L-pad for the tweeter for less than $100.

Couple questions:

What is the goal of this cab, hi-fi sound at low volume for at home playing, restaraunt/coffeehouse gigs?

What you're going to end up with is a hi-fi although not a loud cab. Could also make a good PA speaker for small intimate gigs, a good cab for jazz or upright bass, or a monitor that cab can actually handle a bass guitar.

May need another one or a 1x12 or something to stack underneath it to get loud enough for club gigs.

I am also interested in what you are going to use the cab for.

I have the LA-6 paired up with a 12" kappa pro and I crossed over the LA-6 at 800Hz at the suggestion of Bill Fitzmaurice. It was originally crossed over at 1.6kHz and you couldn't hear anything from the 6".

This cab gives a real warm vintage vibe. I bought it to tame the CXL-112 which is a bit too hi-fi for my tastes.

I've been considering using a couple of those mid-drivers also to add to my 115 and 212, mainly for their ease of installation and cost. I have room in my 212 for a single 8" mid but not two 6's. The Alpha8mra looks like it has enough SPL to play with the 2-12's. Should open up the sound a good bit without sounding too modern, I don't find I need tweeters for a lot of stuff I play. The LA6cbmr's sensitivity matches well with a lot of eminence's bass speakers. A 10+6 or 12+6 should sound pretty smooth.

This will be my new cab for my basic black... the speaker blew on me.. I will be using this for my home practice and may be for our church... Since this is my only amp, would this be loud enough for about 50 people at small church setting?
I am also thinking about instead of building a new cab, just mod. the exsiting combo...

I have a Delta12LF+ La-6cbmr, i only use a HP filter for the La6 crossesd over at ~800Hz, a recommendation from Bgavin.
At this Vb and FB, the D12 exeeds Xmax at100~120 watts

hello guys thanks for your replys. I just got my crossover today from bay.. but i have no way of testing it. it's suppose to be 200w and crossed at 800 and 5k. I connected the mids and tweeter (still waiting for the s2010 :hyper: ) hm.. the sound is comming out w/ lots of hiss noise.. I am wondering is this considered 'working'? I could not hear much sound from the tweeter .. should I have gotten a 2 way crossover instead? BTW that cab looks nice!! clean!!
