Questions on SUB Sterling...

Does anyone know if the pup in the sub sterling is the same as the sterling? I'm assuming not, since the sterling has a dummy coil for hum-cancelling and the switching options....and also has anybody tried refinishing a SUB? I've read here and on the EBMM forums that they are great sounding basses for the $$, but I'm not sure about the lack of contours. Wondering if it would be worth it to get one and add an upper contur for my right arm and then refinish the body.

No it isnt the same. The SUBs are good for the money but IMO nothing you do to it, short of replacing everything , will get you a real Sterling.

I bought my SUB Sterling about two years ago and I really like it. I've had absolutely no issues with this bass, except the pickguard is cardboard. The lack of contours doesnt bother me, and the textured finish really grows on you. It holds up really well and finger prints dont show up on it. The painted neck feels great. Although the SUB doesnt have the coil switching, the EQ is very responsive and produces many great tones. I'm sure you dont need to me told how amazing the slap tone is. Hope I helped you out.

Didn't think it was. Do you know if it's the same as the 4 string stingray? I've heard that the sterlings have more of a mid bump than the rays due to the ceramic pups in the sterling as opposed to the alnicos in the ray.
