Queuing sound clips from stage

My band plays "Here for the Party" by Gretchen Wilson, and I'd like to play the sirens at the end of the song. My drummer is old-school, and does not have any gear to play tracks. I don't want to incur the setup time and haulage of a full keyboard for this, but do want to expand later to pick up similar sound events in other songs.

So I'm thinking that maybe an iPad or a dedicated device (Drum pad?) would work. I have an iPad and mic-stand mount that I could use.

So for anyone using an iPad to trigger sound clips, how has it worked out? Have you wished you had gone with a dedicated device?

Anyone purchase a drum pad specifically to do something like this?

I use a BOSS RC-20XL for running loops live. It is insanity to try to play to looped tracked without a click, but sirens and talking work great. Any looper will work, maybe you already have one. If not, why don't you own a looper? ;)

An Ipod or something would work great but it would be more difficult to hit while playing. Drum triggers/pads are the old school way and would work perfect, but I have never worked with them.

The Boss looks like it might be too much trouble to queue various different sounds. Is it easy to step though files to get to stuff for the next track? I do like the foot-switch method.
Right now I only have a few sounds effects, but I can see expanding to one or more per song.

Seamonkey, that looks more like what I was thinking of. Have you used any of those on stage?

The digitech loopers will cue to next sound through footswitch
