Quick (but dumb!) Passive Direct Box (DI) Question

All,

I just traded my 4lb Markbass F1 and as I can't fit my 85lb SVT-CL in my gig bag and want to travel light to rehearsal, I bought a $40 Yorkville YDI-1P Direct Box today.

I want to do this....

Bass (likely active) ----> Passive DI box ----> P.A. No bass amp.

The reason for the newb question is that I have always had a smaller head or at least a Sadowsky or Sansamp Pre/D.I box and have never run direct from bass to DI box to PA. This is just for rehearsal and I am not really concerned with my tone being coloured or sounding like anything other than bass just as long as my bass actually can be heard.

Question? Will this work or am I missing a anything (pre, power amp, etc.)

P.S. It is very hard to search all things DI on TB due to the 3 letter minimum for searches.

It should work fine. I have plugged my bass straight into the mixer at rehearsals and been loud enough.

Should work fine, but if there's a chance you will be using a passive bass (since you wrote "likely active") I would go for an active DI, just in case.

It'll be fine. BTW, I don't buy into this passive/active active/passive stuff. You just get a good sounding DI and you're fine no matter what bass you use. And especially in this usage...it really doesn't matter.

I guess all a DI box really does is convert my bass signal from high impedance to low impedance.

I was more concerned about what would power the signal, but I guess you don't need a power amp to get a microphone signal from a mic to a PA!

My bad, didn't see the part where he said he already had bought a DI.
As far as active or passive goes I prefer using an active one for my passive basses, but to each his own.
