Quick question about 3-way toggle switches - HELP PLEASE

Can a DPTT (ON/ON/ON) 3-way toggle switch be cracked open and rewired to be DPOT (ON/OFF/ON) switch?

I have a rewire job being done today and aboslutely none of the local sources have a DPOT on hand and I cant really wait to order one.

Is this possible?

No.

That's odd because on-off-on DPDT in far more common than on-on-on. RadioShack has on-off-on switches, but I've never seen a local source carry on-on-on switches.

And it's DPDT even with a center off.

I've never heard of a "DPOT" switch, and DP3T switches are 4PDT switches with external jumpers added. If you have such a switch, just leave one throw disconnected and it will be a DPDT Center Off.
