quick question about purchasing a Ric

Is there a waiting period if you buy one new from mf in the standard Jetglow finish?
The availability according to musiciansfriend read "Will be in stock 7/12" but ive also heard that some people wait months for new rics to arrive, which i guess would explain the high rates used 4003's are going at on ebay.

Is there a possibility that you might have to wait for a 4003? Yes. I have played Rics for well over 30 years now and have never waited more than a couple of days for delivery. I think a lot of the "problem" if you will, is with dealers.

The dealer I went through on my last purchase (I won't mention his name) had my midnight blue delivered to my house within three business days.

I would suggest that you "do your homework" by checking with several dealers in your area and seeing what the actualy wait time is....if they are going to take months....they probably don't have a very good relationship with Ric....

I tried getting a rick from a few online retailers (muscians friend, american music supply, zzounds etc) and all of them which had an "more avaliable" date kept pushing the date back, i even placed an order with muscians friend and put the money on it and they pushed back the "avalaible" date for about 8 months before i said screw it and cancelled the order.

Out of desperation, I wrote down all the ric dealers listed on the ric website and started callign away. after calling 30-40 dealers I was about to give up and then i finally found one in Idaho, jetglo, instock ready to ship and it was only $1099 new compared to the $1299 they were goign for on muscians friend. It only took another 4 days for them to ship it to me here in Canada.

I say if you want one badly, go throguh the effort to find a dealer with it instock since the online stores don't seam to be all that reliable. Another good bet is to find one used, you'll save some money.

There's two posts in this thread saying to buy a used one to save money. That's probably not going to work unless the seller is pretty uninformed. Most knowledgable sellers are taking advantage of the scarcity of available new models and getting top dollar for used ones.

This is true, The cheapest used one I found when I was lookign for a rick was $1500 Cad, which is what they retil for from the local GC so at best you were saving tax, however the advantage is you don't have to wait for it.

Personally i wouldn;t buy a used Rick sinc eyou can get them new at practically the same price peoeple are selling them for used.
