Quick Question concerning CA glue.

Hey,
I was asking you guys about CA glue the other day, cuz I wanted to fill in little holes in my Maple. Someone replied that CA glue is slow setting crazy glue. Im here at work and Im gluing these freakin pieces of steel with some German glue called Cyano Acrylat. Is that what you call CA glue? same abbreviation, however... you can mix this up with dust and fill in holes with it? I would have to try it on some scrap wood first. so... is Cyano Acrylat glue known as CA glue? if thats the case I have so much of this stuff at work ! Thanks!

Slow setting though? I know there are different "speeds" of setting, but is the slowest one really slow? Or are we just talking a couple seconds versus a part of a second?

The stuff I have here takes about 30 minutes to be completely dry on steel, about 2 seconds on my fingers...LOL. No doubt this will hold on wood. Thanks Guys !

I'd look into finding different manufacturers or different curing speeds for this project. You definitely can find slow-setting CA glues, but they're not always available at your local hardware store. Shop around online to see if you can find just the right stuff.

The one I use here is mainly the Cosmoplast Cyano Acrylate. What I dont get is that they say its incredibly quick setting, that really depends on what material you glue. PVC is instant, where as steel takes forever. Anyone know about this product?

I don't know about that product, but most CA glue I've used acts the same way. (crazy glue, super glue, titeloc, hotstuff, super-t).

There are various factors that affect how quick CA glue will cure, but the most important is application amount. The less, the quicker. When used as a void filler, it usually takes a bit of time to cure (up to a couple of hours) because you put a lot of it on. Temperature also affects cure time (colder = more time).

OK, good to hear. I've used it on model-building, and as a coating when turning pens on a lathe, and never had it have to set for that long.
