How would people describe the voicing of the "modern" setting? Is it totally flat? I'm wondering if there is any way to compare it against other transparent leaning amps, like Markbass, Genz Benz Shuttles, Bergantino, Trickfish, etc.

I have a Shuttle 3.0 and 6.0 that I use with different cabs for different applications, but I'm wondering if the Qulter could replace the transparent sound of the 6.0, plus give me a couple additional voicing options.

I think it can. It's pretty flat.

Yeah...whatever "flat" is. The modern voicing is less-aggressive but, to my ears and per the manual, it embraces a discernibly higher damping factor.....less slop, tighter, increased articulation. You have (6) voicing option: flat or scooped + modern / warm / Qtube. Running mine into a Hartke HyDrive 4x10.

It's also bathtub safe if I'm reading the manual correctly.

Got a call yesterday to play in a choir band for a concert in two weeks. Got the music, 8 tunes I don't know, and showed up for rehearsal last night. Brought my V803 and AK TC112. Guitar player and piano are regulars and knew the tunes. I was mostly there to listen, but joined in on most of them just reading off the charts.

What I found is a new way to use the Quilter…hiding in the mix! I usually put a lot of effort into carving out my sonic space. Last night I plugged into the flat input and used the qtube voice to soften the edges. All EQ at noon. Just a nice, full, supportive sound. No special sauce required.

I'm surprised you used the flat input to achieve this. I enjoy the Qtube mode for what you describe, but would have expected the scooped input to be the choice for those tone goals. I might have to play around with the flat input more.

In my bands, the scooped input + qtube, pushed with a Tone Hammer pedal + SushiFX Single Slice comp gets me what I like. Lots of grunt and bark on tap. Choir practice was all about light touch and a warm sound. I might try the scooped input next week though.

I miss my stolen BB800 dearly.

My current needs are met by a Darkglass Alpha Omega 900, which I'll say is a damn fine amp with great, sculptable clean tone of course top class onboard OD.

But there was something about the feel & heft of the Quilter. So, if some extra cash comes my way, I may see how one of these feels… but precious few Quilter boxes ever show up on the resale market, for reasons I understand.

Different rehearsal. I use the scoop input all the time with my bands. But it sounds great! Punch, saturation, and grind if I want it.

So nice! If I go back to 5-string, it will be a Reverend. Quilter amps + Reverend instruments is serious performance (and value).

By the way, I found a great gig bag for this amp. I dislike using branded gig bags that say "steal me." This one you would just steal if you were hungry, and it was fifteen bucks at the Costco outlet store. Nicely padded. Perfect for an amp the size of a large sandwich.

These are back at Costco now and go on sale for $15 6/15. Tupperware included.

Hmmm... This one might be a little different dimensions. I'll grab one next week and check it out.

I use a cast-off Respironics DreamStation CPAP bag that I kifed upon my retirement. The original white styrene packing form fits perfectly in the main compartment and the power cord & speaker cable get tucked into the accessory pocket.

Nice. My Streamliner rolls in a really nice CPAP bag from the thrift shop. When I travel I have to remember which one is the amp and which one is my actual CPAP

I have a larger EBS amp that I need to drag down to the thrift store for a "fitting"....maybe an older padded PC carry bag.

FWIW, Respironics had a major recall which killed that part of the company...but the bags are still pretty nice!
