Quilter Bass Block v803

I was into it up to my armpits. Luckily, Respironics went one-to-one with the end-users in terms of remediation...and did so poorly. Think I had 14 compromised units....I was more of a ResMed guy. From the git-go, we discouraged the use of ozone generators (SoClean) as repeated exposure resulted in degradation of components in the gas path. Don't get me started on Chinese drywall or PUR foam in instrument cases.

Did the choir gig last night. There was a house system and the tech took the DI off the v803. The flat input/qtube with a touch less gain than I use in my bands provided a big, warm sound. Fun playing with local pros! I was the only player in the band who doesn't have a teaching business, and most teach multiple instruments.
played the V803 all weekend through my Ampeg PF-115he which usually houses my Tyler Fliptop amp. It sounded glorious, used the scoop channel on the warm setting and although I have the Mantle I used the DI out of the amp and I've got to say through my IEMs it sounded great and provided plenty of stage volume through the 8ohm cab. Barely had it past 10 o clock on output volume with gain at noon

Since landing on using the flat input for a choir gig, I've been trying it again with my rock band. I hear a pretty different drive character with the qtube voice and flat input vs what I get with the scoop input. Many people have posted that the v803 kind of wants to be pushed and responds well to pedals that boost the input. I have been doing that since I got it, first with a Tone Hammer and now also with a SushiFX Single Slice comp. The SS can be set up for subtlety but I am using it as another gain stage. I would describe the pushed sound in the scoop input as "grunt" and in the flat more of a "bark". There's some sizzle and breakup on the top of the notes, probably because there's more mids using the flat input. Both are good and I haven't yet decided which I prefer. I will say that It's a lot of fun to hear sounds that I associate with recordings and performances featuring big tube amp rigs coming out of my v803 and 212 cab.
My V803 mounted in the BD10 covers the majority of my gigs. Adding another BD10 gives it that little extra. A nice compact rig.
Pub gig last weekend. Supposed to be outdoors on a decent stage. Weather forced us in. I was right on top of the drummer and we were challenged to keep the volume low. I walked out front on a couple tunes to hear the mix. DI off the v803 sounded excellent.
Had one of the Neutrik combo output jacks "fail" on me this week. I use my v803 mounted vertically in my quilter bassdock 12, and use a short Castline 1/4" to 1/4" speaker cable which is needed for the bassdock 12 input. The spring loaded contacts inside of the output I regularly use stopped functioning correctly and won't keep the plug from sliding out. I've tested this broken combo output with speakon cables and my bergantino cab and the output still works, but unfortunately won't hold my current 1/4"-1/4" plug speaker cable in place anymore. I've been in contact with Quilter support, but unfortunately their warranty policy requires me to ship to them at my cost to get the output jack replaced. I'm in NY and they're in California. Shipping cost due to distance is unfortunate.
I've decided instead to order a new speaker cable with a speakon plug on one side and a 1/4" plug on the other. Plus, the other combo output jack still holds the 1/4"-1/4" speaker cable properly and I'll hold on to that as a backup solution.
Anyway, all of this just to give a PSA to use speakon plugs with this amp to hopefully prevent this failure for your v803's.

Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone elses unit it noisy on warm and Qtube settings? Mine buzzes/whines - a bit like an unshielded bass or high gain pedal. Only happens on these modes and isn't a problem per se in the mix but it's kind of ruining home practice. The modern setting is silent.
Anyway, pretty good amp so far, especially for the price. The fan isn't very loud which is great but my unit did get pretty warm last rehearsal but no issues.

Yes, I have this same issue and have talked to Pat Quilter about it. I have mentioned it earlier in this thread and will try to find the posts to link for you. But as you said, it isn't an issue in the mix, only noticeable when playing by myself in a totally silent room.

Ahh thanks, I did look through the thread but must have missed it. All good really, just curious. I'm thinking about getting a headphone rig for home anyway so I can practice quietly etc and then rock out at rehearsal where it doesn't matter.
It does seem odd that a brand new amp has a noise floor, but I guess that is due to the unique circuit designs? I've really only noticed this noise through the tweeter, so if you have yours turned up high maybe consider turning the tweeter down to minimize the noise.

I'm hard-pressed to think of any enclosure that would not shine with a Quilter on top.
