Yes that's how it works, turning up the master will also turn up the line out. It's not really designed to be used as a DI, it's designed more to feed another amp so you can daisy chain them. Not a deal breaker for me, as my Mesa Subway DI goes everywhere my amps go.

I’ve used the line out to feed the FOH a few times, and not had an issue. I usually set it and forget it, but occasionally adjust a click or two... usually turning up to hear myself better.

If you have a good FOH guy, they will adjust if needed. Probably not a huge deal if you are not fiddling, tweaking, and making massive changes the whole show... if that’s the case, you’ve got other things to work on IMO.

DI box is not a bad thing to have in your arsenal if you are gigging a lot.

I tried an ART studio tube pre into a BB800 and it worked fine but no experience with the Noble.

I don't think the Q-Strip sounds especially tubey (not that I'm an expert on that sound...) However, the Q is an awesome accompaniment to the BB800. It affords a lot of tone shaping controls, and does indeed have both a HPF and a LPF!

Edit: I think your best bet for tubey compression is already built into the BB800: Push the gain hard and it melts (to me) just like a tube amp does when pushed. It's one of the BB's best features.

This is certainly true for me. Sold a QSC PLX 1804 and replaced it with the BB800 with the intention of bypassing the front, but now use the active in.

Using a VT Bass Deluxe, Tone Hammer DI, or MXR M81.

Did the gig, decided not to put myself through a 2-hour set listening to the miserable Hartke 410 that was there. Used two Mesa Subway 115 cabs with my straight-ahead PartsCision. I view this as the modern version of the classic bass rig (Precision trough two 15s). And glorious it was, I had a great time!

I (finally) gigged my BB800 for the first time Thursday night. It delivered, on top of being the easiest setup / schlep I've had in a while.

True story:

(Sound guy hands me an XLR cable)
SG: "Here...do you have a DI on your amp?"
Me: "Yes, I have a line out...I have to let you know though, the output varies with the master level knob."
SG: "Oh yeah? That's kind of weird."
(SG shrugs)
SG: "Ok."

And there was much rejoicing.

... and the line out into the FOH sounded awesome. I heard video that proves it.

Tried my new bb800 yesterday . With gain at 7 and other knobs pretty much at noon. One click over 40w on the master and it was already loud enough. Passive input. That thing have serious power.

Did not have time to do proper test. Do you prefer lower or higher gain ?

Was using a passive emg grz pickup equipped P bass

With most amps I prefer higher gain lower master. With the Quilter i have found with some basses a higher Master sounds more full and thicker

Had my BB800 a week and it’s so good! The kind of tone I’ve been chasing. Running it with two Barefaced One10 cabs. Plenty of volume and headroom.
