Quilter vs Mesa Subway vs Tonehammer for Rusty Box

I replaced my SVT with the Quilter and enjoy the additional headroom and reduced weight. But I don't play doom, etc. The bass block has a lot on tap, kind of like a power amp, but I would recommend the Mesa for that type of music. Any of these heads are very nice and can be used in many situations, including heavy genres, but I feel like the Quilter and Aguilar do old school a little better.

Quilter all the way. Had a Mesa SW 800+.. nice amp with nice features and warranty built very good. The Mesa did NOT have the slam/heft/note weight that the Quilter does and I'm satisfied with the 'quirky' EQ as it is. My cabs are NV115 Bergantino and are of the 'sealed' design (not ported) so that might be why I prefer the Quilter BB800.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Quilter. Seems to fit the bill. I'll let you guys know how I make out.

How did the Quilter work out for you based on what you were looking for? Did it match up well with the Rusty Box? Are you using it only as a power amp, or are you also utilizing the preamp section of the Bass Block? I'm currently working on doing some research to change my amp setup and very interested in your response.

I can’t say enough good things about the Quilter. I run the Rusty Box into it, utilizing the pre-amp section of the Quilter. It helps to understand how the pre-amp section of the Quilter works (ha…hopefully I’m understanding it correctly). The depth knob is basically a HPF, and the contour knob acts in two ways, giving you a greater mid scoop as you turn the knob to the left or a LPF rolling off highs as you turn to the right. I think of the pre-amp as more of a utilitarian tone conditioner, rather than voicing, if that makes sense. I’ve also run the RB directly into the Quilter as a power amp and thought it sounded great. However, I keep the RB in the front of my chain because I prefer the sound of it feeding my other pedals, particularly dirt and fuzz. Hopefully that helps. I’ll be happy to answer anything else I can as well.
