When he found a southern US theater wasn't allowing Blacks to see his movie, he went down and picketed the establishment.
He was a good father and was married to the same woman for 64 years.

He was a conservative who spoke up for what HE believed in - true freedom. Not the rah-rah crap of today

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

A spokesman for the actor's family said Heston died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills. His wife Lydia was at his side.

I'll restate, my bad. The part actually written by the OP talking about the significance of Heston.

Truly a larger then life actor, who played Julius Caesar, Moses, McArthur, Marc Anthony and the Apostle Peter. He also was a ground breaking actor in other ways. Planet of the Apes truly made Sci-fi a mainstream genre. He was one of the first white media personalities to march with Dr. King. He also was in the first mixed race love scene in a major Hollywood movie. He stayed married to the same women for 62 years a bit of a rarity these days. and he defended the Constitution. All in all a great man.
