R.I.P. Richard Simmons

Actually, the current thinking is most of the workforce were skilled craftsmen, paid well for their hard work and ingenuity.

They paid them in grain, maybe millet, and beer, plus some gold.
The truth: we will never know.

The facts: they didn't eat pop-tarts, chex, fruity pebbles, fruit roll-ups, doritos, etc. basically all the garbage
we eat today.

Cereal used to mean what it actually is: rice, oats, barley, grains, etc. and it was prized.

Several decades ago when I was working as an audio engineer at a convention hotel I got to meet (and mic up, and mix) Richard Simmons when he was the featured guest speaker at a corporate conference.

He shows up in his trademark tank top and striped shorts, takes one look at me in my company-issued suit, and yells “Sound Guy! Lose the neck tie before I rip it off your beautiful head!!”

What a wonderful character he was! RIP

neat mini film Pauly Shore did
Pauly was sort of hammering him to allow for a full biopic, but Richard turned him down.
It was bordering on pathetic, the way Pauly was publicly posting, asking if he could come over to bring Richard some Matzo ball soup & discuss it.

I'm afraid now Pauly will just carry on with the project. Good for us to see Richard's life, but still against his wishes.

They always go in 3's... Shelley Long, Dr. Ruth, Richard Simmons. It's a completely weird coincidence but it happens pretty much every year with celebrities.
Sorry, that "threes" myth is such nonsense. We also recently lost Martin Mull and now Shannen Doherty, so does that mean we have to disqualify one or two of the three you cited? There are people dying all the time, but we only seem to pay attention to the ones who are either famous or significant/liked by each of us.

Reactions: GregC and Winslow
When my little sister was in high school, sometimes the PE Coach would have them do those "Sweatin' to the Oldies" tapes that Simmons did. Funny enough, she and her friends actually got a kick out of them and liked it.

In my younger days, I'd see people like Simmons and poke fun at them for acting goofy and whatever. Later on, you realize that he probably got far more people's attention than a run-of-the-mill fitness guy would. Sad to see him go, he fought really hard to help people overcome obesity and pushed to make sure that exercise was still part of public school curriculum too.
