In another life, at a former workplace, I was walking through a large room, and spotted Richard Simmons passing through on the other side of it. I had just been to the break room, and bought a small pack of Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies from the snack machine (the very brand he used to cite as an over-indulgence when he would tell stories about being overweight early in life.)
Being naturally inclined toward smartassery, I remembered that little detail, held the cookies up where he could see them, and called out, "Hey Richard! We've got Famous Amos cookies in the break room if you want any!"
He looked right at me, and wailed like we were suddenly in that old anti-drunk driving PSA: "NOOOOOO!!! NOT THE FAMOUS AMOS COOKIES!!! YOU'RE GOING TO KILL YOURSELLLLLLF!!!"
Bless him, what you see really is what you get with some folks. I think he really meant it.
In principle, he was right about junk food, of course, but I was unrepentant. Those cookies were delicious.
Don't worry, Richard. I didn't have too many of them, and not that often.![]()
They also drank a lot of beer and had a life expectancy of less than 35 years, so maybe that's not the best example. We wonder how they built the pyramids, specifically, the Great Pyramid at Giza, without
acknowledging the simple fact: they didn't eat JUNK!
True, probably not the best example. They also drank a lot of beer and had a life expectancy of less than 35 years, so maybe that's not the best example.
If they'd had break rooms stocked with Famous Amos cookies, the pyramids would still be under construction! We wonder how they built the pyramids, specifically, the Great Pyramid at Giza, without
acknowledging the simple fact: they didn't eat JUNK!
Vaya con DiosHis shtick was certainly different from say .... Jack Lalane
But both of them spent their whole careers getting people up and exercising.
Who knows how many lives he effected getting people to lose weight and get in shape?
Via Condios Richard...

Kidding aside, I hear you, and don't disagree. We (the wide, collective we) have inherited and/or made a mess of things with regard to food and nutrition. I'm very lucky to have married a woman with a high degree of health consciousness and good habits. I'm nowhere near as good about things as she is, but there is no question I am alive today because I met her years ago.
With my nature, I was just being a goofball with Simmons in the few fleeting seconds we were within the same space, but with more time, I'd have certainly expressed that his messaging was well founded, and I respected his efforts to inspire people toward better health and habits.
It's all good.![]()
Vaya Con Dios = Go With GodVia Condios Richard...
Actually, the current thinking is most of the workforce were skilled craftsmen, paid well for their hard work and ingenuity.<<<<We wonder how they built the pyramids, specifically, the Great Pyramid at Giza, without

I’m guessing they didn’t eat too much of anything, since they were enslaved.
I think you may mean Shelley Duvall. They always go in 3's... Shelley Long, Dr. Ruth, Richard Simmons.

My bad, yes I did mean Shelley Duvall. Not sure why I accidentally typed Long but that seems to happen to me often at this age lol.I think you may mean Shelley Duvall.
Shelley Long (from "Cheers," etc.) is still with us.![]()
