John Hurt – one of my favorite actors of all time – has passed away at age 77. May you rest in peace, Sir.

RIP to a fantastic actor. Never been much of a movie buff, but he was in 2 of my favorite movies of all time - The Elephant Man & Midnight Express. His portrayal of John Merrick was incredibly powerful, although you couldn't really tell it was John Hurt under all of that make-up.

Many movie-goers probably remember him for "THAT scene" in the original Alien movie.

Yep, Hurt was "that guy" in Alien. A scene that cannot be unseen.

    Great actor, a real pro.

I'll miss him. He was one of the VERY few actors whom I'd watch in any movie he was in - just because he was in it...:(

Dang. What a transformer of an actor. He could turn into whatever the part needed. Serious, oddball, quirky, you name it.

  13. RIP JH.

Best character actor who ever lived. Irreplaceable.
  14. He was such a fantastic actor. I just watched "The Skeleton Key" a week ago ...
  15. If there is ever a complete box set of the 129 movies he's been in I'd probably buy it.

If I had to pick a couple faves I'd go with his roles in...

Rob Roy - Marquis of Montrose
    Midnight Express - Max
and his cameo part in The Proposition - Jellon Lamb
