I've been using an SKB 6u forever and have nothing bad to say about it. I'm adding to my rig and need to upgrade to an 8u. I'm just wondering if I should consider Gator an option or stick with SKB. I have a Gator 2u rack drawer that has been great, so I'm wondering about the quality of their racks. I play out regularly so I need something that's sturdy and dependable. Any info?

rack cases: SKB vs. Gator

the cases stack with an interlocking design,so if thats an issue i would stay with a similar skb
I've had several SKBs and their build quality is superior. Another factor: SKB puts the latches on the removable covers, while Gator put them on the main chassis. I find it bothersome to have them sticking out; one more thing to snag a cable, etc. Very happy with my current 4U SKB. They last forever.

the Gator's latches can also rattle if your rack is on top of you cab. IMO, SKB's are far superior and the polyethelene that they use also holds up better. i've had Gators crack, but never an SKB. so basically, you get what you pay for.
No big deal to me either way, but I prefer Gator for one main reason. It's front and rear covers are identical, whereas SKB's rear panel is smaller, making it difficult to connect cables, and leave them plugged in if the gear is deep. Also the rear latches break easily (at least they used to).
Protection? Well neither would survive being run over by a truck!

I've had an SKB for more than 15 years. Two of the latches were worn out. About six months ago, I contacted them and they sent me 4 new ones for free. They even covered postage. That's customer service.

I've actually sold the skb 6u, so I gotta get something. I think the different lid guy was refering to the rotorack. Those things have a totally different rear lid system. I kinda like the rolling rack from gator. It appeals to my lazy side. Any experience with those?
I had a lower end gator rack and the latches did rattle when on top of cab,drove me crazy! I recently bought a gator rack bag and really like it,i wanted to rack my lmiii with tuner and wireless and still keep it as light as possible.
The SKB's have a bigger handle on the side. The Gators have little space to get your hand into to grab and go.
