Rack cases....

I'm in no rush to get one since I'm not even in a band anymore, but what would you suggest for a rack case to house an SVT 2 Pro?

I looked at the ATA Shock cases, but they weigh in at like 45 lbs...plus the SVT which is like 70lbs... that's alot of weight.

What do you think of those SKB-type molded ABS cases. They weigh like 5-8 lbs or something. too chinsey?

I have a Road Ready 6 space case: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] with my SVT 2 Pro. The case weighs about 27.5 pounds so with the amp the thing weighs around 100 pounds. I can carry the thing by myself but it sucks to carry any signifigant distance.

I bought the 6 space because I wanted some more room to put a couple other components in the future but based on the weight I might rethink that and get another small case for those things when I get them. But this rack seems to be very well built and should be able to handle normal wear and tear.

what would his prces be like on a 6-space 14" deep unit?

The SVT is 4 space, I have a 1 space tuner, and that would leave 1 space for something else I may want to put in there...

Did I mention that I probably won't buy a $300 rack case. I just need something to protect if from slight bangs bumps due to normal occaisional transport.

I use a Pearson short 4 space for my SVT-II/400+. It weighs around 10 lbs, it's surprisingly well built and only cost $69 + shipping. I prefer mine for local gigging duty's over my other Anvil, SKB and Mesa shock racks.

I bought an SKB roto-molded 8 spacer at the beginning of the year to replace the generic case that I started with. It works great and I don't worry about my gear in it at all. Seems very durable. I have seen it used as a seat by some girl that had no idea of what she was sitting on at a show once. I didn't even think twice because I knew it was fine. . . and she was hot.

that isn't a problem as long as the lids cover everything when closed. I measured the amp shell and it is 13.25" deep, 14.5" with the little rubber feet on the back of it. The handles are 1.25" forward of the amp face, total of 2" forward of the rack rail itself. If I get a 14" deep rack, it would be perfect. Even a 12" deep would be fine because the lids are about 2.5" deep or so (but I think that would be cutting it close).

Right now it's a toss-up between the Pearsons or a Gator ABS case...

I used an SKB six-space case in the 90's for a few years with no problems. It housed my old SVT-IIP preamp and an Ampeg AP-3550 power amp, Sabine tuner, and a power conditioner. It held up to a lot of use, rain (the rubber-gasket sealed lids are great), kept the gear safe during a couple of falls, and didn't add any weight to speak of.

Too bad they're not fireproof. :(

I've used a bunch - SKB, SKB-copy, Grundorf, kind of depends on the features you like and it can even boil down to aesthetics (i.e., do you want plastic or carpet?).

As an aside, a friend of mine bought a Grundorf brand new a few years ago and ordered it direct. When he received it, he removed the front cover and noticed some writing (in pencil) on the inside of the cover. It plainly said "To the customer, **** you". Must've been some guy on his last day. :D

I have been looking for a a larger version of what i already have (2 space), and haven't been able to find anything other than those plastic molded type rack cases....
