Rack tuner - lag

Why Can't We All Get Along?

I'm pretty new to playing and I just picked up my first rack mounted tuner (I got tired of my kid and his band-mates "hiding" my tuners).

Please forgive my lack of proper terminology in my explanation & question.

I bought a Sabine RT-1601 and here's what I'm not liking: There is a lack of responsiveness from the tuner. If I pluck a string once a second as the manual suggests, it seems like the tuner never catches up.

When changing strings to tune, I must first mute the set, wait for the lights on the Sabine to clear, then proceed to the next string to tune.

Am I missing something in the way I need to tune with this tuner? Granted, I got it because I didn't have a lot to spend on a rack tuner.

Not sure if it matters or not (it hasn't with other tuners), but I go:
bass > MXR M80 DI > Tuner > Amp

Sorry for the basic question, but I can't really believe that this tuner is actually functioning as designed.

I have a Sabine tune and have had it for years (1993 or so) Mine does the same as yours and always has. When I would use it would be the first thing in the signal chain. I don't use it anymore. I would sell it, but I don't see anyone buying the POS.

It's funny how that when I was looking into a cheap, used, rack tuner, I didn't read a bad thing about Sabine. Now that I own it, all I can find are reviews telling me how bad they are.

I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes - it pays to dig into your research better than I did. Good thing it wasn't a lot of money.

I feel obligated not to put it back out there in the general public by selling it. I can probably put it to use in the workshop where I tinker with building and upgrades and stuff like that.
