Rack?

If your bandmates can't treat gear properly, don't let them touch it. Suck it up and move it yourself.

Anyway, I preferred wood racks when I was using them, but plastic racks are lighter. Nowadays I don't use them at all.
 
If the head gets very hot, and if the heat vents out the top, then it is a good idea to leave one extra empty rack space above the amp, so the hot air can escape. If the amp runs cool, or if the vents are on the sides, then it's not necessary to have any extra rack spaces.

The wooden racks tend to be able to take a lot worse beatings and abuse. But a well-made plastic one will be fine. Just avoid any cheapo plastic one that looks like it would crack up under abuse.
