Radial JDI vs. Markbass Super Pro DI

Right--as noted, a passive bass is sometimes not suited to a passive DI like the Markbass. Or, for example, the JDI that you mentioned in the first post.

I use my EHX Micro POG to split my signal (Clean on the P.A. / FXs on the Amp), so I feed my... *sigh* Behringer DI with the Buffered signal from the "Dry Output" of my MicroPOG.
I'm planning on (OBVIOUSLY) swap out the Behringer. Which DI would you say is the most bang for the buck?

Not sure, but the Behringer most likely has the most buzz for the buck!

I use a JDI and it sounds great. It's very simple, very quiet, and just plain does the job without any fuss. It's also built like a brick sh*thouse.

Looks to me like the biggest difference between the two is about $120!

The construction does appear to be somewhat beefier with the Radial. And FWIW Radial uses a Jensen transformer. Markbass uses "the world's finest", whatever that means (apparently not Jensen ).

I'll be curious to see some user reports, especially with a direct comparison. If the Markbass holds up sonically, that price point ($80 vs $200) would make it awful tempting.

Get the Radial. It's a known entity, and the entity is good. Buy once, cry once.

whirlwind has a new IMP (the industry standard "good enough" passive box) with a nicer jensen tranny. that might be a good bang/buck choice.

The idea that a passive DI may not work well with a passive bass may be a little misleading to some. A passive instrument with a preamp between it and the DI will function to boost the signal every bit as well as an "active" instrument with an onboard preamp. I use a VT Bass and a Diamond comp (both of which will hot up the signal if I choose to) in front of a JDI. And I'm only stating the obvious here after seeing that an obvious joke you made wasn't obvious to all.

Truth be told both of the very passive basses I'm using right now (a Fender with Armstrong split tube jazz p.ups and a shortscale with a Darkstar) both record very well straight into the JDI with no extra signal boost.

The direct2-jt uses a Jensen (I'm guessing that is why the 'jt' is in the model name, but what makes its 'nicer' I'm just curious since I'm into my DIs.

it's called the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], and some googling reveals that it's selling for way more than a regular IMP, but a good bit less than a radial JDI, somewhere in the $130 range.

I'm looking for a DI to play in live situations. My set up is
P-Bass > VT Bass Pedal > DI. I then split the DI signal to the board and to my amp. I was wondering if anyone has tried the Radial or Markbass DI's and could give me some advice.

I own a Radial JDI and a Sansamp VT Deluxe. If you are already using a VT pedal, then I would look no further than getting a Radial JDI. It is a phenomenal DI. You can use the VT for a preamp effect and extra gain if needed to push to the board.

Old thread. That is correct though. When using our VT Bass your signal is low Z and will not be loaded down by the impedance mismatch of a passive DI.

So when I just use passive basse then I should have an active DI, but when the signal goes through an effect (Aguilar TCL, Taurus Abigar, EL grande bass fuzz, VT bass) the DI can be passive or active, no difference?

So would it mean that if I use effects on some songs but not on all of them I should get an active DI ?

All this stuff with that passive/active DI to a passive bass got me confused
